Dehenna Davison (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities) recently announced that the money will be spent on levelling up in the following three key areas:
Communities and place: this could include improving parks and green spaces, sports facilities and access to arts and culture
Supporting local business: including support for entrepreneurs, as well as research and development grants for local businesses to help develop innovative products and services
People and skills: providing basic life skills, digital training and education in English and maths, and specialist support for people with additional barriers due to health conditions.
The Fund also includes a multimillion-pound adult numeracy programme "Multiply" to
North East businesses?
Regional authorities across the Northeast have been working behind the scenes throughout 2022 putting their needs and plans forward, and the UK Government has now published the allocation of Funds for each lead authority who will be managing the Funds for the 2022-2025 period, based on the spending plans they submitted.
The UKSPF fund allocations for our region will be managed by the following lead authorities:
North of Tyne Combined Authority Tees Valley Combined Authority County Durham Council Gateshead Council
South Tyneside Council Sunderland City Council
The North East lead authorities have been quick off the mark and have already started to publish Calls inviting appropriate organisations to propose business support programmes in line with their spending plans
