Staff at Darlington Aldi warehouse receive 9% pay increase
Aldi are offering warehouse workers a 9% pay increase, following the price-rise that store staff have received. Thousands of workers will now get a much higher hourly rate, including those at the regional distribution centre in Darlington.
As of this month, colleagues within the Darlington warehouse will receive a new minimum rate of £12.66 an hour; a 9% increase on their January 2022 hourly rates.
This comes after the company’s annual pay review, which came into effect from February, saw pay rates across Aldi’s logistics network increase. Any colleague who works outside normal operating hours will see their night premium payments increase from 20% to 25% of their normal hourly rate.
More than the Living Wage
Aldi’s wages currently exceed the Living Wage Foundation’s recommendation of £9.90 per hour, and applies to all of the 970 stores and 11 regional distribution centres that the supermarket has across Britain.
Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, says that the announcement of a pay increase is to recognise the contribution of the logistics colleagues, and how they serve communities across the country.
He also commended the work of the night shift staff, who keep the shelves of Aldi supermarkets stocked and ensure that customers continue to have access to fresh, affordable food, daily.
