Hip irons
Steel hip irons are used to securely fasten and support the bottom ridge tile of a hipped ridge system.
This stop the ridges being able to slide off in high winds and adds extra support to a mortar bedded wet ridge system.
A lack of hip irons, or hip irons that have rusted and broken off are a major cause of car and pedestrian damage below. Often, ridge tiles slip and will be hanging on by nothing other that the guttering corner bracket.
This should be treated as an emergency job and Findley Roofing recommends that replacement hip irons or dry ridge system be installed urgently. Don’t forget, some ridge tiles can weigh in excess of 14kg (30lbs) each!
New hip irons can be fitted to your property from £300 per pair. Just ask your estimator for more details.
