The first game I went to
was in 1980 at Roker
Park. This game actually
wasn’t an SAFC match,
it was with the England B
team against the Spain
B team. I went there to
see Shaun Elliot, who
was a Sunderland centre
back at the time, and he made his England debut in that game. So yeah, that was the first game I went to, but I didn’t actually start going to Roker Park to watch Sunderland until 1983.
there’s been a few. Gareth Hall, he always used to give away penalties whenever he would play for us and was voted worst SAFC player ever.
What was the first game you ever went to?
What was the last game that you attended?
What was your least favourite game?
The last home game against Cardiff. That wasn’t very good!
I’m just trying to think because it’s definitely one of the Wembley finals where we’ve been beaten. I think the FA Cup Final against Liverpool where we lost 2-0, we just didn’t compete.
It’s got to be the most recent Wembley final against Wycombe. I had been waiting for so long to see us win at Wembley and so when it finally happened so that one is special.
The Play-Off Semi-Final at Newcastle was amazing. It was at St James’ Park in 1990. When Marco scored our second goal on 85 minutes the Mags knew the game was up and their fans invaded the pitch and tried
What is your favourite Sunderland XI?
My favourite Sunderland XI is gonna go all the way back to the 1990s. We had Sørensen in goal, Chris Makin, Jody Craddock, Micky Gray, Stefan Schwarz, Paul Thirlwell, Nicky Summerbee, Kevin Ball, Niall Quinn, Kevin Phillips and Allan Johnston on the wing. That team there was one of the best teams I’ve ever seen at Sunderland.
What was the best player you’ve ever seen for Sunderland?
It’s probably either Kevin Phillips or Niall Quinn they were just tremendous when they played together. But if I had to pick one, I’d have to say, Phillips.
And your favourite game?
Who is your least favourite Sunderland player?
to get the match stopped, but it didn’t work, and we were on our way to Wembley at their expense!
My least favourite Sunderland player? Well...
Who was your least favourite Sunderland XI?
My least favourite XI was the team that got relegated to League One in the 2017/18 season. There are a lot of contenders for
the worst player in this XI with the likes of Lee Camp, Billy Jones, Lamine Kone, John O’Shea, Jake Clarke-Salter, Paddy McNair, George Honeyman, Callum McManaman and I’d say, Josh Maja...just for leaving us...
What’s your best Sunderland story?
