NE VOLUME RATING:
One of our region’s finest up-and- coming acts, Pensacola Mist, return with new album, ‘Lost In Love’, with their huge, candy-coloured sound thoroughly
perfectly into the pop/dance spectre. Choosing not to take too obvious/well- trodden routes, ‘Nineteen’ lands in a space somewherebetweenthemoredown-tempo beats and distant vocals of Billie Eilish,
and a space that is deliberately cinematic, complete with almost James Bond-themed orchestral choruses. Sounding deliberately lost, searching and out of control, the
end result is a tight pop/dance moment showcasing Robinson’s delicate vocals and narratives whilst hiding some of the main themes in plain sight. Building from gentle openings into a grand final pay off, Robinson demonstrates a fine understanding of pop structures and compositional work. Though not obvious on first listen, ‘Nineteen’
hides some hidden treasure if you keep persisting. Great work. You can listen to ‘Nineteen’ now on all major streaming platforms. DAMIANROBINSON
NEW MONEY ‘SHEEP’ SINGLE
NE VOLUME RATING:
A decent and well-
produced debut release from Newcastle’s New Money, ‘Sheep’ blazes into town with a distinct air of the type of non-committal,
slightly jaded personalities made famous by various turn of the century Britpoppers who’d ridden the high waves and were getting a bit bored of the tabloids and ‘next big thing’ labels. Driven by interesting guitar parts, deliberate lo-fi sonics and fine lead vocals, ‘Sheep’ blends a post-grunge ‘90s feel with moments of deliberate trip-hoppy rhythms and tempos; you’re
in a similar culture of Blur’s ‘Blur’ here or Supergrass and ‘In it for the Money’. Enveloped by ‘Ghost Town’ style woo woo’s collective vocals, ‘Sheep’, if anything, sounds like a record made too early by a young band - but maybe they’ve reached that jaded stage already. It’s a strong if
not overly original debut. You can listen

scene since 2013, getting hard and heavy with audiences from day one. The outfit’s latest release, ‘Inherent Malevolence’, is
an 8-track collection filled with intensity - andit’snotforthefaint-hearted. Ittakes listeners on a sonic journey of hard-hitting tracks, with a variety of fascinating three and four-minute numbers, as well as two 10-minute long soundscape-style songs in the form of ‘The Stillness of Unending Sleep’ and the title track, ‘Inherent Malevolence’. Although this genre isn’t for everyone, metal fans will definitely enjoy this release from homegrown talent in the form of Erebor. You can listen to ‘Inherent Malevolence’ now on all major streaming platforms. Erebor play their next North East date at The Music Spot in Hartlepool on Friday 28th October alongside Nephilim, BOZ, Demagoda, BlokeChapFellow and Phalanx. GEORGINA SHINE
GOODSPRINGS ‘LITTLE MISS FAMILIAR’ SINGLE
enhanced by the addition of vocalist, Melissa McNaught. With Stranger Things propelling ‘80s anthems up the charts, and poptimism’s iron reign over, it’s the perfect moment for PensacolaMisttoshine.Withanaesthetic heavily paralleling Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2010s movies, and a matching hidden darkness lurking beneath the neon and sonic candyfloss, all 11 tracks aim for the stars and land every time. The touchstones might be telegraphed but are no less thrilling for that, if you’re ready for epic love songs torn straight from the videotape of uber-budget action flicks. Seamlessly incorporating logical elements such as The Midnight saxophonist Thomas Edinger and Lara Croft voice actress Jonell Elliott, the record represents a brilliant refining of the band’s long summer night template and is poised to push them further into the public eye. NE VOLUME RATING:
Newcastle- based quartet, The Peevie Wonders, have recently exploded onto the scene, immediately performing
the sounds of ska, punk and reggae, the group have taken the sound of ska back to its pure old-school Jamaican-style roots. The piece opens with an introduction that you wouldn’t expect from a traditional
ska outfit, but that familiar rhythm quickly kicks in and ‘Little Miss Familiar’ makes herself known. There are moments that are reminiscent of Ian Dury and The Blockheads but there are also enough unique elements placed throughout the piece to make this a Goodsprings track. With a combination of hard-hitting emotive lyrics and the upbeat good times and good vibes sound, you will find your mind, body and soul stimulated by this track. a sell-out show at Bobiks - and with
good reason. This is indie-punk mixed with relatable lyrics (I’m ashamed to say their lyrics hit pretty close to home, but then I think, once upon a time, most
of us thought we had the best music taste around before enjoying music for the sake of it) - and this single makes
me enjoy music properly once again.
Its fantastic production lets every bit
of it breathe, with the bass and drums doing a lot of the heavy lifting to make the whole track make you want to move, with its powerful, half-shouted lyrics giving it oomph and guitars, synths, and even a cowbell in the bridge, keeping
it interesting. ‘Indie Dancefloor Boy’ is something else – it’s special. You can listen to ‘Indie Dancefloor Boy’ now on all major streaming platforms. ADAM BRACCHI
