                 MUSIC
 INDIA ARKIN
“I’m still not over how crazy it is”
  NEXT NE GIG
 Friday 26th August
 VENUE
 Bobiks, Newcastle
As India Arkin prepares to release new music and headline Bobiks in Newcastle, Lee Allcock caught up with her to speak about her backing from BBC Introducing and more.
For those of our readers yet to discover your music, what can they expect?
I would describe my music to be an experience of wild experimental sounds and ethereal soundscapes all strung together with raw and intimate lyric writing, pushing the boundary between psychedelic- rock and upbeat indie. My music writing derives from exploring honest commentary on life and the relationships experienced within it; something that anyone, whoever they are, can relate to.
You’re getting a lot of backing from BBC Radio 6 and BBC Newcastle. How does that feel?
Honestly, I cannot begin to express the extent of my gratitude for the team at BBC Newcastle, especially Nick Roberts, who has been a
massive supporter of my work since my very first release ‘Dashboard Dancing’ that came out coming up to a year ago now. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of BBC Introducing, and the backing from Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6. I’m still not over how crazy it is that I’ve been so lucky to have such incredible support, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Do you have any releases planned over the next few months?
All I can say is that BIG BIG things are coming very soon. I’ve been working with my incredible team – most notably my incredible producer Will Stephen (@LogueAudio) and some phenomenal session musicians - over the last few months recording new music. It’s going to be a new era of India Arkin music.
Do you have any gigs planned over the next few months?
We have a lot of very exciting gigs coming up all over the country. Most excitingly, we have a headline
show at Bobiks in Newcastle on Friday 26h August, which is going to be absolutely killer and I would definitely urge people to come down for. We are also going to heading down to Leeds to play a headline show on Saturday 27th August, and for any southern fans, we are playing a show down in St Albans, supporting TV Coma, on Saturday 6th August.
And finally, what has been your favourite gig to date and why?
Oh, that’s such a hard question. I think one of my favourite gigs to date was definitely my headline show at Cobalt Studios earlier this year. The venue itself is just gorgeous but it was the energy in the room that made it incredible. We went from crazy headbanging to having the whole room holding glow sticks swaying with us...it felt truly magical.
Tickets for India’s Newcastle date, priced at £5.00 in advance, are available from bobiks.com.
