      All-New ROI+ V2 Design
Early in the third quarter of 2014, ABT Medical will release its newest version of ROI+ known as ROI+ V2. Industry-wide praise for the capabilities of the current version of ROI+ is not sufficient for ABT Medical. Rather than resting on our laurels, we strive constantly to add levels of automation, convenience, and compliance to our ROI+ platform. After working and talking with Providers and Requestors, we have established the following ROI+ V2 requirements and design goals:
• Simplify the Requestor’s experience with the ROI+ Requestor Web Portal;
• Reduce the number of steps required to fulfill a request for PHI;
• Improve ease-of-use for ROI processing staff by leveraging
modern User Interface (UI) design concepts;
• Make the workflow process more intuitive;
• Add customizable components to tailor ROI+ to each client’s
unique request fulfillment processing procedures;
• Implement a more comprehensive system activity Dashboard,
allowing users to instantly view Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
• Provide single-click reporting, enabling Providers to analyze
fulfillment transaction data in their own unique report formats;
• Establish a document library for Provider-specific documents that
can be attached selectively to invoices, fulfillment/rejection notifications, and patient charts.
To achieve these innovations, ABT Medical incorporates established technologies and software development practices. The diagram below depicts how ROI+ V2 will be structured, using cutting-edge technology components and high-speed processing architecture. This layered architecture allows us to better scale our platform, decrease component coupling, decrease field bugs, and improve the end-user experience.

ROI - The Security Gap
While IT managers, the established guardians of electronic Protected Health Information (PHI), are fastidious in protecting patient medical files, there is one striking exception. This exception is a process known as Release of Information (ROI). When requests are made for copies of patient records, those copies are forwarded by fax or mail 90% of the time. The trouble is that these delivery methods threaten the very patient privacy standards the
healthcare industry has promised to uphold.
Security issues are further compounded when Providers outsource the ROI process. Patients’ records are transmitted to an off-site location to be processed by multiple persons, who may not have established privileges to view the patient record content. In addition, outsource service companies do not typically use highly secure data centers with the same robust security standards that are in place at medium to large healthcare institutions. Provider IT departments are unaware of the enormous security risks because they rarely, if ever, are called in to conduct strict on-site audits of outsource service companies. Without an audit, it is impossible to establish whether the outsource service company’s data repositories or data security protocols meet the Provider’s core IT requirements.
ABT Medical’s parent company provides data storage for some of the most prestigious Fortune 500 companies. As a result, ABT Medical is routinely subjected to the strictest audits by its client base. These most thorough levels of IT audit processes simply do not exist in the healthcare industry today.
Healthcare Providers and their IT departments should be aware of where their patient records reside, when stored off-site, and mandate secure electronic record delivery instead of allowing fax and mail delivery, which can needlessly compromise patient privacy and security.

New Data Center Benefits
In February, ABT Medical relocated to a new data center to take full advantage of the latest security and high-speed transmission technologies. The most significant upside is that we are now leveraging Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) technologies as part of a private cloud. We have chosen this “private” approach to ensure that we meet all future data compliance requirements. “Private” in this instance means that all servers, software, and data files are accessible only to ABT Medical and use no common “public” components. IaaS leverages both physical and cloud technologies, so we can offer our clients increased reliability and performance. As the company grows, this technology will help our staff better scale our platform to meet the demands placed on it. As our customers grow, we will be able to quickly accommodate changes in data and user volume without affecting the web experience of our clients.
