Year 7 News
It has been absolutely brilliant to welcome back the whole cohort of Year 7 to Arnold Hill Academy. They have demonstrated amazing resilience in returning to face-to-face teaching. We’ve made some improvements to our bubble base so that the students have a comfy ‘calm corner’ to be able to speak with members of the pastoral staff when they need some space and support.
In terms of the curriculum, the Year 7s have started practical lessons in Food Technology and Product Design. It has been wonderful to see the students enjoy these lessons and get used to using the specialist equipment. I’ve also enjoyed getting to observe drama lessons, in particular the shadow puppet performances!
The focus this half term has been on rewards and we have introduced ‘Freddo Friday’ where by each tutor group has two nominations by their tutor for a Friday treat! The Year 7s have also helped our bubble base to become our home by creating some truly wonderful art pieces for our ‘WOW board’. A huge well done to Fatima Quereshi, Sarah Johnson, Reuben Draycott and Durim Ibraj who scooped the top prizes for their pieces.
We have welcomed back Librarian Mrs Corton from the testing team and I know that some of our Year 7s are very happy that the library is now back up and running - watch this space next half term for the return of the book club! After Easter we will also be running football for some lunch times and we are really looking forward to being able to offer these extra activities for Year 7.
