Decadence is adapted from Examples of Chinese Ornament created by English architect and designer Owen Jones. Working in the 19th century, Jones sought out the best examples of ornament and decoration from around the world and was a key figure in the foundation of the V&A. Matley is printed with two distinctive designs adapted from a textile manufactured by
Samuel Matley & Sons in the early 1800s, now held in the V&A's archives.
