Q: What is your favorite thing about living where you live?
A: I live in a rural area outside of Oklahoma City. I have lived in Kansas, California, Texas, and Oklahoma, and I LOVE Oklahoma. It’s a friendly state, great quality of life for my family, and lots
of things to do if you want to take advantage of them. And, Oklahoma is a state that recognizes the value of a strong and healthy horse industry.
Q: If you could vacation anywhere on the planet, where would it be & what would you do there?
A: I would really like to take a road trip and go
at my own speed up through the Northwest, the Northeast and down the East Coast to Florida, then back across the South to Oklahoma. I’m not a foreign traveler much, but I might like to visit Brazil and see the horse farms down that way.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote and, if so, what is it?
A: Not a phrase really, but my dad always used to tell me, “You have nothing if you don’t have integrity.” I’ve always tried very hard to be true to what I believe and not compromise my integrity so people will respect me.
Q: If you could sit down and visit with anyone, past or present, who would it be?
A: My dad.
Q: What drink would your friends describe you as, and why?
A: I don’t have a clue. I have almost lived four separate lives: as a young person with rodeo and horse shows, as a professional
in real estate and land development, as an elected official in a political world, and then the last 20 years in the horse business representing horsemen. I have lots of friends that only knew me in one of those chapters of my life, and I think each different group sees me in a different way. For sure though, none of them would see me as a sweet and “fluffy” drink!
Q: Who’s your favorite athlete of all time, and why?
A: I really don’t have a favorite human athlete. I would really have to give that some thought. But my favorite athlete would probably be Brownie, the horse that taught me to ride and to love a good horse!
Q: If you were making a movie about yourself, who would you cast to play you, and why?
A: Hmmmm, probably my daughter, Krissy. She doesn’t always like it, but she is a lot like me.
Q: What’s one thing you don’t like about Quarter Horse racing?
A: The notion that it is a step down from Thoroughbred racing. It is usually a totally different group of people, but the horse itself has no reason to have less than equal consideration.
Q: What’s one thing you like about Quarter Horse racing?
A: The PEOPLE and the HORSE!
For the last 20 years, I’ve had a job that was pretty much 24 hours, seven days a week.
