The first yearling sale of the season was held July 24-25 in San Antonio, Texas. The 18th annual Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale saw 183 horses sell over two days, marking an 8% rise over last year. The sale average was also up 8% to $14,593 (excluding repurchases), and the median increased 29% to $9,000 com- pared to $7,000 in 2014.
“This year’s TQHA sale has attracted several new buyers,” stated TQHA Executive Director Val Clark. “We had a 7% increase in horses offered this year and we want to thank both the consignors and buyers who made it a success.”
Hip #45, Louisiana Cricket (The Louisiana Cartel-Quick Lil Cricket, Royal Quick Dash), topped the $100,000 mark and sold for $140,000 to Billy Tiffee. Consigned by Mary Denson, Double S Farm, Agent, the gray yearling colt is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner The Field Cricket si 109 (2015, $138,846).
Hip #240, Kazoomin (Azoom-Smiles All Around, Feature Mr Jess), was the second-highest seller at $80,000. The bay colt was consigned by Mike Amburn, Granada Farms, Agent, and was purchased by Valeriano Racing Stables. Kazoomin is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner One Valiant Hero si 102 (2015, $389,799).
The leading buyer was Ricardo Barrera, purchas- ing 17 horses for $360,400. The leading consignor/ agent was Bobby D. Cox, selling 19 horses for $323,000. The leading sire was One Famous Eagle with 17 head selling for $526,500, and the leading sire by average with two or more sold was Mr Jess Perry with 2 head selling for an average of $57,500.
