JES A FAST DASHER
by Michael Compton
Jes A Fast Dasher proved to be just that, a fast dasher, reporting home a 1/2-length winner of the $217,640 Louisiana Bred Derby-RG3 at Delta Downs on July 11. Ridden by Lucas Constantin, Jes A Fast Dasher raced in 4th early & dueled with the lead- ers throughout. Proving he has a nose for the fin- ish line, the gelding rallied in the lane, motoring past early leaders Sweet Okey
Dokey & MDA Game to score the victory. He stopped the timer in :19.838 for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr., who also saddled the 3rd-place finisher.
MDA Game held the 2nd spot under Alfonso Lujan, while Sweet Okey Dokey crossed the line 3rd but was disqualified for interference and placed 7th. The DQ moved Icanonlyemagine, piloted by Donald Watson, from 4th to 3rd.
Jes A Fast Dasher picked up the $108,810 first-place check to lift his bankroll to $377,872 on 6 wins from 9 starts. It was the 1st graded stakes victory and 2nd stakes win for Tony Doughtie’s homebred. Jes A Fast Dasher’s 1st stakes win came in last year’s LQHBA Sale Invitational & he was 2nd in the 2014 Louisiana QHBA Futurity-RG1.
“Watching him come down that lane, he looked good all the way,” Doughtie said. “About the 250-yard mark he got his momentum together. He seems like a horse that is going to run 440 (yards). He really turned it on in the middle of the race.”
Jes A Fast Dasher had a small chip removed from his left knee after his 2-year-old season. “He’s turned out right,” Doughtie said. “I’m impressed. Sometimes they don’t come back like this after surgery.”
Foaled in Louisiana, Jes A Fast Dasher is the 1st stakes winner out of Jes A Game, winner of
6 stakes, banking $323,978. “Every time you looked up, that girl was winning another stakes,” Doughtie said of the mare. “These two right here (Jes A Fast Dasher & Jes A Game) have big hearts. He’s already topped her money (earned).” Jes A Game is the dam of 7 winners from 12 starters.
MDA Game (Game Patriot- Mary Roll) was 2nd for Manuel Alvarez & trainer Ignacio Garcia. Icanonlyemagine (Swinging Jess-Real Or Imagined) was 3rd for Bobby Cox & trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. Followed by Louisiana Legends (Jet Black Patriot- Sheza Cash Dasher), VF Ought to Jet (Jet Black Patriot-Ought to Go Shine), Louisiana Jambalaya (Jet Black Patriot-Iwanna Dash), Shes a Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Classic Cartel) & Heza Louisiana Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Eyejesslovelouisiana). Dashing With Courage was scratched.

 Gordon Mobley Futurity
MEGATRON HARRY
by John Moorehouse
To the victor go the spoils, and the spoils were vast in the Gordon Mobley Futurity. The race, held July 4 at Indiana Grand Race Course, matched last year’s version of the event as the richest Quarter Horse race ever contested in the Hoosier state with a $199,200 purse. The spoils, in this case, went to Megatron Harry, who continued his unde- feated start to his racing career.
Running for Sheri Miller, Megatron Harry now holds
3 wins in as many outs. This marked his 1st victory in stakes company, and the $109,560 winner’s prize improved his total earnings to $121,110.
“He is an easy keeper
in the barn,” trainer Randy Smith said after the race. “Early on, he had an ankle injury and Gordy Timms owned him then and worked really hard on him to get him

back. When he brought him to the track, he was like brand new.”
Victory didn’t come easy for Megatron Harry. He broke well from the 7-gate, opening
a 1/2-length lead entering the stretch, but he had to hold off a fierce challenge from My Louisiana Rod in the final yards, winning by just a head.
Rodney Prescott was aboard for the stakes- winning trip, which saw Megatron Harry com- plete the 300 yards in :15.672,
tallying a 93 speed index. “He was wound up in the post parade, but when he got
in the gate he was good and he broke sharp and got the job done,” Prescott said.
The Mobley win produced a 6-figure payout & contin- ued an outstanding 2015 meet at Indiana Grand for both Smith & Miller. The meet’s leading trainer with 20 wins, Smith saddled 5 of 9 in the
futurity. Four of those finished in the top 5, including runner-up My Louisiana Rod.
William Beyer bred Megatron Harry, the 1st stakes winner out of stakes-placed winner Chicks Sweet Donna, whom Beyer also owns. The mare has produced 2 foals/starters.
Smith owns/trains My Louisiana Rod (La Jollaroid-Miss Louisiana Blue), 2nd under Juan Guerrero. Anthony Cunningham owns/trains Beach Bum Eddie (Escondido Beach-Carman Copy), 3rd under Jose Beltran. Followed by Pistol Packin Kid (Kool Quick Kid-Highest Math), BV Romeo (First Corona Home-Fly Like A Butterfly), Pepsi Perfect (Escondido Beach-Chics Pepsi), Coco Beach (Escondido Beach-Flashin Dee Dee), Devil Quarterback (Quarterback Draw-WW Devil Woman) & Jess A Rockstar (Jess Special-Spurs N Garters). WRS Kool Bob scratched.
