 Granada Farms has a long-standing history of fitting yearlings for sale. Its most successful sales graduates include:
• Blues Girl Too, a 2004 mare by Corona Cartel and out of Run The Dash by Sixarun. She earned $2,032,328 in two years on the track with wins in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1,GoldenStateDerby-G1,Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1 and the Champion of Champions-G1, and runner-up runs in the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1 and the Golden State Million Futurity-G1. She earned the AQHA Champion 2 Year Old and Champion 2-Year-Old Filly title in 2006 and the AQHA World Champion, Champion 3 Year Old, Champion 3-Year-Old Filly titles in 2007 after earnings rankings of second in 2006 andthirdin2007.
• Double Down Special, a 2007 gelding by The Down Side and out of Pamper Me Special
by Special Effort, earned $1,211,934 in two years on the track while finishing second in the Sunland Park Winter Futurity-G2 and winning the West Texas Derby-G3, Ruidoso Derby-G1 and All American Derby-G1. He topped the earnings list and was named AQHA Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding in 2010.
• JoannaKate,a1995marebyRareFormand out of the Pass ’Em Up TB daughter Bug Em Up, earned $538,679 with 15 wins from 44 starts. Her wins include the Texas Championship Challenge-G1, Los Alamitos Invitational Championship-G1 and Remington Gold Cup-G1. She ran second in the Remington Park Derby-G1, New Mexico Derby Challenge-G3, All American Derby-G1 and AQHA Challenge Championship-G1, and finishing the Heritage PlaceFuturity-G1third.Sheendedherfour-year racing career with the 1999 AQHA Champion Aged Mare title.
A STRONG STALLION ROSTER
Over the years, Granada Farms has overseen
the breeding careers of stallions such as Windy Ryon and AQHA Hall of Fame inductees Ronas Ryon, Streakin La Jolla and Runaway Winner in addition to cutting icons Doc’s Oak, Doc Per and Personality Doc.
Inthepastyear,GranadaFarmshasupdated its stud barn, added another barn with 40 stalls for their dry mares, and plans other improvements as well. “With the volume of mares we’re breeding and foaling out [120-150 a year], we’ll continue
to evaluate our capabilities to provide the best possible services and facility for our customers and for everyone in the market,” Pete says.
