The $101,000 high seller was Hip# 473 Corona By Corona, a multiple stakes winner consigned by Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC and purchased by Cesar Nunez and Christina Flores.
The 42nd annual Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale in Oklahoma City took place on Jan. 16-18. The American Quarter Horse Association announced their 2019 Champions the previous evening on Jan. 15.
The event kicked off with original Orren Mixer artwork from the private collection of the Mickle family. Paintings included in the sale were originals of Bar H Leo, Vanny Bar, Rebel Cause and Charlie Mickle atop Vanny Bar.
The sale saw 645 horses sell over three days compared to 610 selling in 2019 over a two day period. The average increased to $12,005 compared to $11,757 in 2019 and the median stayed the same at $7,700. Gross sales reached $7,743,000.
“We had a big finish to the Winter Mixed Sale 2020,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said to stallionesearch.com after the sale. “Eighty-nine percent of the horses offered this year were sold, and the crowd remained strong throughout the weekend. On behalf of Heritage Place, we want to say ‘Thank you’ to all buyers and consignors and wish everyone well on their purchases and at the races.”
The high seller at $101,000 was Hip# 473 Corona By Corona si 97 (Corona Cartel- Louisana Corona, Jess Louisiana Blue). The 2016 bay gelding was consigned by Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC, and purchased by Cesar Nunez and Christina Flores. Corona By Corona won the Holiday Handicap and Weber Downs Utah Bred Derby, was second in the Ed Burke Million Juvenile Stakes and was a finalist in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby. The gelding is by World Champion sire Corona Cartel and out of graded stakes winner Louisana Corona. His second dam is 4-time Champion Corona Cash. Corona By Corona has earned $118,629 and is currently in training.
The second-highest seller at $85,000 was Hip# 575 Apolltical Chad si 97 (Apollitical Jess-Fast Prize Tracy, Shazoom). Consigned by Marty Powers, Agent,
the 2014 sorrel gelding was purchased by Jose J. Espinoza. Apolltical Chad won
the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 and Texas Classic Derby-G1 and was a finalist in the All American Futurity-G1, Rainbow Derby-G1, Ruidoso Derby-G1, Championship at Sunland Park-G1, Zia Championship-G1, Sooner State Stakes-G1, etc. The gelding is by World Champion Apollitical Jess and out of stakes placed Fast Prize Tracy. Apolltical Chad has earned $930,730 thus far.
The $85,000 second-highest seller was Hip# 575 Apolltical Chad, a multiple Grade 1 winner consigned by Marty Powers, Agent and purchased by Jose Espinoza.
