Denny Boer Passes Away
Denny Boer, 74,
passed away on Jan.
8 following a battle
with lung cancer.
Boer, who was born in
Jerome, Idaho, served
in the Marine Corps
Reserves and operated
a dairy as a profession.
He was a member of
the Dutch Masters
III Partnership with childhood friend Dr. James Streelman. Dutch Masters III Partnership, which was inducted into the Ruidoso Hall of Fame in 2017, is the #2 all-time leading owner of money earners and ranks as a top 25 all-time leading breeder of money earners. They were AQHA’s Champion Owners in 2001 and 2005, and AQHA’s Champion Breeder in 2005. Among the leading horses bred and owned by Dutch Masters III Partnership are Champion Four Forty Blast, 2-time Champion Higher Fire, and Champion Secret Card. Boer is survived by three children, six grandchildren, longtime partner Gloria Slegers, and many other family members and friends.

was a fixture in
California horse racing
since 1955. He began
his career in horse
racing as a groom
and worked his way
to racing official, to racing steward, and finally to owner and breeder, which led to 4-time Champion Moonist and 2019 Champion Cartel Jess Rockin. Hartley was a member of the PCQHRA Board of Directors and served on the association’s awards committee. He also served as an officer with the AQHA. In 2005, Hartley was awarded the Frank Vessels Sr. Memorial Award and was recognized on Jan. 23 with the 2019 PCQHRA Owner Special Achievement Award. “He would do anything
to help the sport and Quarter Horse industry in California,” said Vince Genco, President of the PCQHRA. He will be sorely missed by many.
