Mildred N. Vessels Special Achievement winner Melodie Knuchell is a longtime employee of Los Alamitos, having officially worked there for 30 years. In addition to her positions at Los Alamitos, she is also a racehorse owner. Knuchell was one of the members of The Girls partnership that owned Champion Old Habits. She also has served on the AQHA Racing Committee for decades, including
a focus serving as chair of the graded stakes committee for three years. She was also elected and served on the AQHA Racing Council.
