Mark W. Guy passed away at the age of 67 in Des Moines, Iowa. Guy loved horses and was a member of the Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, and the Colfax Saddle Club. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was buried with military honors.

Coronas Prospect (Corona Cartel-Fantastic Polly, Fantastic Native) passed away. The 2000 bay stallion set a 350-yard New Track Record at Delta Downs and earned $164,559 winning 8 races, including two graded stakes. Coronas Prospect sired over $3.4 million
in earners, including 2-Time Champion Prospect To The Top si 106 ($992,670).

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad was inducted into the Prairie Meadows Hall of Fame.
Gov. Branstad, who was selected for his contributions to agriculture and the Prairie Meadows racing program, signed the Pari- Mutuel Wagering Act in 1983 and appointed the first State Racing Commission to serve
as the regulating body. The Prairie Meadows Hall of Fame was founded in 1998 to honor human and equine contributors that helped establish the success of Prairie Meadows and the racing program.

Arapahoe Park donated over $20,000 to three equine-related charities based in Colorado – CANTER Colorado, which retrains retired racehorses; the Colorado Horse Council, which
is the equine voice for the state; and Nighthawk Ranch, which provided equine camp experiences for children recovering from cancer. Arapahoe Park, in partnership with the Colorado Horseracing Association, collected a donation for every starter from each horse’s owner, and sold t-shirts, with all proceeds going to charity.

Retired horse trainer and jockey agent Charles Copeland, 80, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, passed away. Copeland was a U.S. Navy veteran of Korea.

With the approval of Los Alamitos Race Course management, the grounds crew built a soccer field behind the wall of the far turn of
the one-mile track for backside employees. The field hosts a 6 vs.
6 soccer tournament consisting of teams compromised of barn area employees and Los Alamitos staff. The victorious team is awarded new soccer uniforms. The Orange County track hopes this will become a long- lasting tradition.
