The 40th Annual 2016 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Yearling Sale saw numbers across the board fall when the state experienced historical rain and flooding, with over 15 inches of rain falling in some parts of the state. Preliminary results for the sale, which was conducted Aug. 11-12 at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana, report 404 yearlings sold for $4,458,400 compared to 425 in 2015 selling for $5,026,200. The average decreased slightly to $11,036 from $11,826, and the $6,500 median was down as well from $7,000 last year.
“Despite the torrential downpour and flooding in South Louisiana, our sale remained strong,” LQHBA Executive Director Tony Pat- terson told Stallionesearch. “We would like to thank everyone for their support and patience on a difficult weekend.”
T M Ranch was the purchaser of the top two sellers as well as of the co-third-highest seller, and was the second leading buyer at the sale.
The top seller at $105,000 was Hip#32 Cant Catchacorona (Coronas Leaving You-In The Open, Mr Eye Opener). Consigned by Montgomery Equine Center, the gray colt is a full brother to Champion Open Me A Corona and a brother to three additional stakes placers. The colt is from the immediate female family of World Champion Wave Carver and three- time Champion Ocean Runaway.
The second-highest seller at $80,000 was Hip#387 JLS Dash N Fire (Heza Fast Dash- Psalmist, Osceola Warrior), consigned by JLS Speed Horse Ranch Inc. The black colt is a half-brother to Champion JLS Mr Bigtime and to stakes winner JLS Book Of Psalms.
