SUNRAY PARK MEETS OPENS MAY 3
SunRay Park will open its 17-day season on Friday, May 3.
Located in Farmington, near New Mexico’s Four Corners region, SunRay Park will offer live racing on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule from May 3-5, May 24-26, and May 31-June 2. The track’s stakes schedule features 16 stakes, nine for Thoroughbreds and seven for Quarter Horses. In addition, seven of SunRay’s stakes are restricted to New Mexico-breds, four for Thoroughbreds and three for Quarter Horses.
SunRay Park’s richest Thoroughbred race, the 1 1/8- mile, $75,000 San Juan County Commissioners Handicap, will be run on closing day, June 2. The track’s state-bred Thoroughbred stakes are the 6 1/2-furlong, $60,000 Russell & Helen Foutz Distaff Handicap (R) for fillies and mares on May 5; the 1-mile, $60,000 Jack Cole Handicap (R) for 3-year-olds and older on May 13; the 4 1/2-furlong, $60,000 C.O. “Ken” Kendrick Memorial Stakes (R) for 2-year-olds on May 20; the 6 1/2-furlong, and the $60,000 Dine Stakes (R) for 3-year-olds on May 26.
SunRay Park’s state-bred Quarter Horse stakes consist of the 400-yard, $60,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG3) for 3-year-olds on May 17; the 400-yard, $60,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (R) for 3-year-olds and older on May 24; and the 350-yard, $60,000-added New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) for 2-year-olds on June 2.
