JC Wild King’s winning connections include breeder/owner Jose Cervantes, trainer Fidencio Jimenez and jockey James Flores.
“It’s something special, especially when you see these horses grow up at the farm,” said Cervantes.
The father and son look for the best stal- lions possible for their mares, and while they sell a few, they race most of what they breed. Oh Cherokee Rose joined their broodmare band after winning the 2009 Fair Meadows Belles Stakes and running third in the 2007 Remington Park Futurity-G1. She has pro- duced nine winners from 12 starters, includ- ing 2013 Fair Meadows Juvenile Stakes winner JC Lil Rose and 2017 Will Rogers Derby Challenge winner JC Wild Rose.
Unfortunately, Oh Cherokee Rose devel- oped stifle problems, and the Cervanteses had to euthanize her earlier this year. However, they have an FDD Dynasty yearling colt and an Apollitical Jess wean- ling filly out of the mare. They also got twin FDD Dynasty embryos from her for next year.
With seven weanlings in their 2021 crop of foals, the Cervanteses may sell more than usual. But they will certainly keep some to run in the hopes of duplicating JC Wild King’s success.
Bad Monkey (Capo De Capi-Girls Eye Too) ran second for jockey Benito Baca and Dean Frey, the gelding’s breeder, owner, and trainer. Bad Monkey’s other stakes victories are the 2020 Ruidoso Downs Championship Challenge-G3 and 2021 Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge.
(Apollitical Jess-Belle Of Valor) to third for trainer Jason Olmstead. Tom Maher, Paul Luedemann, and Dick Tobin own the gelding, who finished second in the 2021 Will Rogers Downs Derby Challenge Stakes.
Completing the field were The Prize Ferarri (The Louisiana Cartel-Ferarri Fast Prize), Painted Snowclouds (PYC Paint Your
Wagon-Snow Clouds), FDD Princess (FDD Dynasty-Viborita), Seattle Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Misterious Lady), Jet Wings One (EC Jet One-Wayward Wings), Fortunes Wild Blood (Apollitical Blood-Cartels Fortune), and Rowdysvision (TF Rowdy Lil Perry-Vision My Corona). Bayou A Cartel was scratched.
