The Prize Classic
SF QUICK CORONA
By Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
Of the eight registered for this classic in honor of The Prize, an outstanding runner in Mexico, the filly Dominyun Ivory
from the Cuadra Victoria M.C. was removed. Among the seven participants, the only Mexican bred was SF Quick Corona, the eventual winner of the race.
This is the first futurity of the season, which in recent years has shown decreasing participation, going from 18 runners registered in 2018 to eight this year, with the exception that in 2020 it was not contested because of the suspension of races due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although all debuted in this race, the betting preferences leaned markedly towards the chestnut colt Eleet Fleet of the Cuadra Los Arrallanes, who had two official works with one of them being the best of all the others with :12.04 at 220 yards. His odds were the lowest at 0.90 pesos for each bet to win.
As the race was started, Zoom Zoom Pilot (#4) came out decisive and powerful and ready to fight, as did Eleet Fleet (#6), but 40 yards from the finish line SF Quick Corona (#8) reached high speed coming down the right side of the track, leaving Eleet Fleet in second place by 3/4-length at the end of the 300 yards.
The winner’s time was
:15.22 for an 88 speed index
under jockey David García.
With this, she brilliantly
begins her career triumphing
in a classic, for which she
obtained the winner’s share of
the purse of $174,650 pesos
($8,469 U.S. approx.), the
main part of the $349,300
pesos ($16,939 U.S. approx.)
assigned as a total purse to this stakes race.
SF Quick Corona is a daughter of the stallion SF Simple Quick Dash, a son of Royal Quick Dash, and out of HL Corona Heart (by Corona Caliente). She was bred by Santa Fe Roldan Inc., is owned by Rancho Santa Fe and is trained by Héctor Ángel Roldán Arreola.
Simply put, she is a Mexican product, bred, trained and owned by the legendary Roldán Arreola Family, and they also bred and own the stallion SF Simple Quick Dash, which was an outstanding runner at the age of two when he won the The Prize Classic and the Jodys Glory Classic in 2011.
As far as her dam HL Corona Heart is concerned, she was bred in New Mexico, but
has no record as a runner. Among her top runners is SF Simple Quickheart, a full brother to SF Quick Corona and the winner of $36,854 with a second place in the Garañones Futurity-RG3.
As already mentioned, in second position at the finish was Eleet Fleet (Jess Good Candy-Clareet, by
One Dashing Eagle), with the support of rider Aaron Adrian Gomez for owner Cuadra Los Arrallanes and trainer Hugo Estrada López.
In third place was Zoom Zoom Pilot (Mr Piloto-Zoomin To Win) under the leadership of José Roberto Durán for owner Cuadra Santa Rosa Chiapas and trainer Ismael Ayala Salas.
Power Jamming (Power Jam TB-Corona Tea Rose), Lett It Be Me (Dominyun-Let Her Zoom), Motorman (Freightrain B-Louisiana Blue Dream) and Third Lovin (Three Six- Nothinlikelovin) completed the order of finish.
