First Prize Cruise received three awards at the AQHRA awards night Nov. 17, 2018, including Reserve Champion 3 Year Old, Champion Alberta Bred 3-Year-Old Filly and Champion Alberta Bred. Tom Kenway of Warman, SK owns, trains and bred this Alberta Bred that has raced her whole career in Alberta.
Her two-year-old campaign
saw her qualifying to the Grande Prairie Regional John Deere Juvenile Challenge and the Canada QH Cup Futurity. This gritty filly came back
in the 2018 race season with a strong start; a pair of wins, winning her trial and then the AQHRA Maiden Stakes Final. In addition First Prize Cruise also placed third in the Alberta Bred Derby and the Canada QH Cup Derby and qualified to the Peace Country Derby.
As the story goes, Tom said, “I have to give Ken McFarlane some credit as the resulting mare line
of these horses is from a cross of
a mare and stud he brought to Saskatchewan and I purchased as a weanling.” Thus, Tom owned and trained the mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of this particular line. Tom says her mother has a 2018 foal by BD Cruiser to look forward to, and a 2017 two year old by BD Cruiser who will make his debut in Alberta this summer.
First Prize Cruise wins the Alberta Aged Series Maiden Stakes at Rocky Mountain Turf Club.
