was a small opening but in a million-dollar race we had to go for it. He’s not the best in getting away from the gate but he got away well enough.”
Ramirez, who looked a tad overwhelmed in the winner’s circle when getting interviewed by Remington Park’s Chris Kotulak, had ridden the Ruidoso Derby trials the same afternoon in New Mexico, barely made it
back to Oklahoma in time to keep his mount in the Heritage Place Futurity. A delay in the races at Ruidoso delayed the private plane, and Ramirez didn’t make it to Remington Park until well after 7 o’clock in the evening. The Heritage Place Futurity went off at 10:36 p.m.
Trainer Trey Wood gave plenty of credit to his staff at Remington Park, including his assistant Paul Leal, for having the winner
on top of his game for the richest race in his young career. “Paul Leal, he did a heckuva job with him. If it wasn’t for him, BP Cartels Alibi would not have done it tonight.”
Bred by Bill Price of Thackerville, Oklahoma, BP Cartels Alibi is a 2-year-old colt by Corona Cartel out of My Ladys Alibi. An earner of $70,000 in her career, My Ladys Alibi is a graded stakes-placed daughter of Chicks Beduino. Prior to BP Cartels Alibi, she produced Cartel Lady, second in the Heritage Place Juvenile and third in the Black Gold 330 Futurity, and First Dashaway, who was
a finalist in the Rainbow Futurity-G1. She is also the dam of JA Codas Pride, the dam of stakes winner JA Fast Lady and granddam of stakes-placed BP Valiant Man. Denis Winn,

bought BP Cartels Alibi as agent for $40,000 when the colt went through the 2011 Heritage Place Yearling Sale as part of the Lazy E, Agent consignment of breeder Bill Price.
The Heritage Place Futurity score was
BP Cartels Alibi’s second career victory to go along with his trial win on May 4. The win- ner’s check of $440,398 gives BP Cartels Alibi $450,900 in his young career.
Finishing second was El Duero (Oak Tree Special-La Jolla Rocket). Toby Keeton trains the gelding for owner RT Stables. G.R. Carter Jr. rode El Duero, who won the West Texas Futurity-G1 on April 15.
Sum Better Stuff (Tres Fortunes-Fightin Jane Wayne) was third with Rodrigo Vallejo in the saddle for trainer Judd Kearl. James Cordell owns the gelding, who won his last two starts and was making his first stakes appearance.
The top three were followed across the wire by Dash For Coronas (Coronas Leaving You-Azure Dash), Captain Strawfly (Captain Courage-Strawfly Lady), CC Seis (Tres Seis-Cassandra Crest), Thequeenhasgonenuts (Hadtobenuts-Queen Of The Castle), and Valiant Lil Lady (Valiant Hero-Rustys Lil Lady). Dashin Brown Streak and PYC Kant Katch Me were scratched.
