 Louisiana-Bred Lassie Futurity-RG2
MS JINGLES
by John Moorehouse
Frank Cavazos went into the Louisiana-Bred Lassie Futurity-RG2 with what he called “a gut feeling” that his promising filly Ms Jingles
would win the race. Ms Jingles proved that instinct right—decisively.
The 2-year-old filly ran away with victory in the futurity on May 26 at Delta Downs, separating from the competition by almost two lengths before winning by one length.
After tallying the top qualifying time in the trials, Ms Jingles showed plenty of speed in the stakes event itself. She came flying out of the second gate at the front of the nine-horse field, promptly opening a one-length lead. She pro- ceeded to run away from her would-be rivals, covering the 330 yards in :16.464 for a 101 speed index while notching her third victory.
“Seemed like the farther she went, the farther she was leading,” Cavazos said.
Jockey Eddie Cox was aboard as Ms Jingles reaped a $126,159 payday for her owners at the Double A. Partnership, swelling the career cof- fers of the filly to $166,820 after only four outs.
“I kind of felt that she could win it. The filly had been doing really good and training good,” Cavazos said. “I kind of had an idea, kind of had a gut feeling she could beat that bunch of horses. But you never know. It’s horse racing. You never know what can happen.”
Her one misstep to date? The Mardi Gras Futurity, in which Ms Jingles mustered a third-place finish. Cavazos was quick to note, however, that Ms Jingles got bumped somewhat coming out of the gates in that race.
“I’m just happy to have
her, happy to be training that
filly,” Cavazos said. “They
took this filly to me when I was in Shreveport. I had plenty of stalls. I took her and she was paid up in the Mardi Gras. She qualified there with the fastest time and then like I said had
a little trouble in the finals. But we knew she was a nice filly.
“She’s not very big, but she’s got a big heart,” Cavazos added.
Easy Acres Performance Horses bred
Ms Jingles and owns her dam, Some Quick Dasher, a 2001 mare who recorded two wins in 10 lifetime outs. Both of her offspring to date have made starts, and while both are winners, Ms Jingles becomes the first to tally a victory in stakes company.
The future schedule for Ms Jingles remains a bit up in the air, but don’t expect to see the filly traveling to other states anytime soon.
“I’m trying to keep her just against the Louisiana- bred horses. Plenty of money to be made against them,” Cavazos said. “I don’t think she needs to go run out
of state or with open-bred horses. Doesn’t make sense to me.”
Bare Naked Martini (Jet Black Patriot-French Martini)
took second place for owner James Magnon. The Matias Lopez trainee had Gilbert Ortiz aboard. Miss Taylor Swift (Miracle Streak- Sneaking N Dashing) hit the board in third. Michael Zingelmann trains the filly, and co- owns her with Shelly Zingelmann and Patton Farms. Jeff Jerman did the riding.
The remaining order of finish was Lets Play Yacht Sea (First N Kool-Yacht Sea),
Kalies Favorite Game (Game Patriot-Rockets Favorite), Adalidas Tree (Oak Tree Special- Adalida), Cougar Hill (Panther Mountain- Lovers Dash), Dashing First Down (Hooked On Run-SS Blaze Star) and Littlemisstunder (Agouti-Six Bits Of Magic). Streakin Ellen, the second-quickest qualifier, was scratched after breaking through the gate and getting loose prior to the start.
