The cover of this year’s 2018 Speedhorse Barrel StallionRegistercelebratesthegreatFrenchmans Fabulous. The 1988 palomino stallion is also knowninthebarrelworldbyhisnickname,‘Fab,’ whichcertainlyisanappropriatemoniker.French- mans Fabulous is a remarkable horse. He proved his mettle in both the arena and breeding shed.
It seems that so many of the top barrel horses find their way back to the immortal Frances Loiseau, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 91. The ‘French- man’ name originates from her husband, James Michael Loiseau in honor of his French ancestry.
Loiseau, who is the breeder of Frenchmans Fabulous, began what became the foundation of her breeding program with a $700 purchase of the two- year-old dun filly Casey’s Ladylove, who is the dam of Caseys Charm, the dam of Frenchmans Fabulous. Several of the 15 foals that Casey’s Ladylove pro- duced went to the racetrack, with four winners and one stakes winner in the group. But, her true destiny was to start a dynasty of performance horses, includ- ing 2001 Reserve World Champion Youth Barrel Racer Love A Lord and Frenchman’s Lady, the dam of the #1 leading living sire of barrel money earners with more than $7.2 million - Frenchmans Guy.
AQHA Hall of Fame mare Casey’s Ladylove etched her name in barrel racing history, and her 1978 mare Caseys Charm, by Tiny Circus, is another of her top products. Caseys Charm, who
is sometimes referred to as the first lady of barrel racing, produced 4-time WPRA World Champion French Flash Hawk, aka ‘Bozo,’ in 1987. In 1998, she produced Frenchmans Fabulous, who is by leading sire Frenchmans Guy. Thus, Frenchmans Fabulous traces back to Casey’s Ladylove through both his sire & his dam, and further traces back to the stallions King, by Zantanon, and Joe Hancock. This is truly a blue hen family if there ever was one.
Frenchmans Fabulous was a solid barrel race money earner, winning at major events. He contin- ued as an accomplished open, USTRC (U.S. Team Roping Championships), and WPRA (Women’s Professional Rodeo Association) rodeo competitor, including as the 2003 Reserve Champion Calf Rop- ing. He earned his AQHA Performance Register of Merits in barrels, and in heading & heeling. He was the National High School Rodeo Association Girls Reserve AQHA Horse of the Year and the Arizona High School Rodeo Association Girls AQHA Horse of the Year. He and rider Kelsey Lutjen won the 2012 National High School Rodeo Association Goat Tying
Championship, Arizona High School Finals Breakaway title,Year-EndtitleinGoats,andYear-EndAll-Around title for the Arizona High School Rodeo Association.
Buthistrueprowesswasseeninhisabilityasasire. FrenchmansFabulousranks#23onthelistofall-time sires of barrel racing money earners. He is the #1 leading siring son of Frenchmans Guy with over $1 million in lifetime progeny earnings in barrels, roping & steer wres- tling. His magic cross on Dash Ta Fame mares has seen nearly $500,000 in earners. His progeny are winners of scores of events, including barrel futurity wins in the Old Fort Days, BBR Finals, Fizz Bomb, etc.; barrel derby wins in the BFA, Classic Equine, BBR Finals, etc.; open wins in the NBHA, Diamonds And Dirt, Barrel Bash, etc.; & rodeo earners in NFR Steer Wrestling, USTRA, World Series Finals, etc. The lists go on. His top earners include: 5-time Barrel Futurity Champion KN Fabs Gift Of Fame ($190,163), Barrel Futurity Champion KN Fabs Mist Of Fame ($144,056), and many, many more.
They say great things come from humble begin- nings. Frenchmans Fabulous came from one of the humblest of beginnings, from the early breedings of Frances Loiseau. And now, he and his offspring continue that legacy at the top of the game.
