RUIDOSO SET TO OPEN EARLIER IN 2019
An earlier opening day and new stakes races are scheduled this summer at Ruidoso Downs. Racing on the Mountain is set to begin
on May 10. The new stakes races are the $100,000 estimated Maiden Stakes for 3-5-year-old Quarter Horses and the $45,000 estimated Rita Danley Distaff for 3 year olds and older New Mexico-bred Quarter Horse fillies and mares.
New Mexico-bred racing will be celebrated during the Zia Festival on July 27-28. The largest purse is offered in the $400,000 esti- mated Zia Futurity. Zia Weekend provides 11 stakes races carded over the two days.

BOURDIEU FUNDRAISER
A fundraiser benefitting jockey Martin Bourdieu will be held on Feb. 20 in the Paddock Room at Turf Paradise. Martin suffered multiple, serious injuries from a spill that included a broken femur, all his ribs on the right front side, three ribs in the back and three on the left side, as well as puncturing both lungs. After successful surgery, Martin
is home with his family for a long recovery
and could miss eight months or longer for recuperation. The Turf Paradise fundraiser will include dinner by donation, a live auction, and silent auction. Mike Barro of Barro’s Pizza will provide pizza for the event. Donations
