                                 Delta Downs Meet Leaders
Delta Downs ended their 2017 Quarter Horse meet on July 8 and named their meet lead- ers: Rogelio Marquez Jr. is the leading owner with 12 victories, including the Lee Berwick Futurity-G1 and Lassie Futurity-RG2, and $714,770 in earnings; Kenneth Roberts Sr. picked up another leading trainer title with 61 wins and earnings of $1,515,184; and John Hamilton scored another leading jockey title with 59 wins and earnings of $851,225.

    Ed Burgart To Retire
Longtime Los Alamitos track announcer Ed Burgart announced that he will retire next summer, calling the races at the track through June of 2018 to coincide with
his 66th birthday.
Burgart, who began working at Los Alamitos in 1977 and has been the voice of Quarter Horse racing in California since the 1980s, plans to spend more time at his retirement home in Arizona.
Former Los Alamitos Clerk of Scales Being Investigated
The California Horse Racing Board has been asked by Los Alamitos to investigate the job performance of the track’s former clerk of scales, who is responsible for reporting the cor- rect weight of jockeys before and after a race. The identity of the former clerk of scales has not been confirmed.
Fire Destroys Barns at Eastern Oregon Livestock Show
Four barns at the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show were completely destroyed by a fire on July 24. It took roughly 40 firefighters 45 min- utes to extinguish the flames. The barns were vacant and there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
Buckle Giveaway At California Breeders Champion Night
The 18th running of California Breeders Champions Night took place July 29 at Los Alamitos Race Course, with patrons receiving a free Los Alamitos Western Buckle with their paid nighttime admission. The Los Alamitos Western Buckle was made by Montana Silversmiths.
Feds Grant Additional Visas
The Federal Government will issue an additional 15,000 visas under its H2-B visa program. The Department of Homeland Security announced their decision on July 17. Trainers have relied on the H2-B visa program for grooms and hotwalkers.
