BRAZIL
An American visits Brazil
by Luis Alvarez
Brazil. I have been blessed to go to this beauti- ful country for the last three years in a row. From California to Dallas, Texas, to Sao Paulo,
Brazil, is a total of 13 hours of flying. Usually, I get
to spend about two weeks going to top notch, first class farms, seeing some great races at the Jockey Club of Sorocaba, attending one of the top sales, and, of course, socializing with some great friends.
This year I had the privilege of seeing the great stallion Separatist being presented at the fifth annual Ana Dantas Ranch Dream Of Speed Sale. Separatist was brought to Brazil by a great group of men includ- ing Jonatas Dantas (Ana Dantas Ranch), Guy Peixoto (Rancho Horizonte) Ivan Melo (Haras Flamboyant) and Luciano Alves (Haras Luis Alves). Other stallions presented at the sale were SC Chiseled In Stone, Tres Seis and Silver Wild (Roaxo).
As always, the sale was amazing. The whole place was covered in decorations of black and purple cloth. The lighting was perfect. The horses that were in the sale looked great. Everything was exactly perfect to get you in the mood to buy a horse, and that’s exactly was happened. I felt like buying a horse, so I did. With my good friend Evanildo, a.k.a. Cowboy, we bought a filly. It was pretty exciting stuff!
Earlier that day, before the sale, the Jockey Club of Sorocaba had their running of the “Potro do Futuro Futurity” (Foal of the Future Futurity). The race was won by Fortaleza Toll, a gray filly by SC Chiseled In Stone out of Summer Toll, by Tolltac. This kicked
off the day’s excitement because the sire of this filly is owned by Jonatas Dantas (Ana Dantas Ranch) along

with his partners Luciano Alves (Haras Luis Alves) and Eugenio Nunes and his brothers (Haras Santa Maria).
As always, during my entire stay in Brazil I received first-class treatment. The people are friendly and always have big smiles on their faces. It seems
to me that their love of and passion for the racing American Quarter Horse just grows and grows each year. When Fortaleza Toll won that futurity, the
roar of excitement and cheering that came from the owners of the stallion was just unbelievable. I don’t know who was more excited, the owner of the filly or the owners of the stallion! It was great to be able to be there to celebrate with them.
A few days later, my friend Cowboy and I went to go visit a few breeding farms including Central Rancho Das Americas. They stand some great stal- lions including Tres Seis, SC Chiseled In Stone, Corona For Me, Fishers Dash, A Streak Of Cash and a few more stallions. This ranch is also the
new “summer home” of Separatist. A few days after that we went to Luciano Beretta’s LUB Breeding Reproduction Center. Here, too, they stand some great stallions such as Dean Miracle, Count Corona, Shazoom, The Corona, and Panther Mountain. This farm will soon be the new home of Eyesa Special.
I want to thank Dr. Valdemar, Dr. Denise and Luciano Beretta for their hospitality at the ranches, and all of the Brazilians who made my trip so won- derful, with a special thanks to my wife for letting me go! All too soon, the trip ended and it was time to return home to California and start planning next year’s trip to Brazil.
