 • Arizona, Phoenix--As of Feb.
18, following an investigation that determined no other horses had been infected, Turf Paradise’s quarantine was lifted after being implemented on Jan. 28 when three horses arrived from New Mexico where 74 horses had been diagnosed with the virus.
• Arizona, Phoenix--As of Feb. 24,
officials confirmed that a horse shipped
to Turf Paradise from Golden Gate Fields tested positive on nasal swab for the disease. The California Horse Racing Board was notified of the positive test. No horses
will be able to ship in or out of the
holding area for seven days.
Other barns on the backstretch remain
in operations as normal.
• California, Los Angeles County--
As of Jan. 6, a draft cross displaying neurologic signs was confirmed positive for the non-neuropathogenic strain of EHV-1 & was quarantined & isolated. All exposed horses on the premises were monitored & had temperatures taken twice daily.
• California, Riverside County--As of Feb. 16, no new cases had been reported after a polo mare was euthanized Feb. 9 after showing neurologic signs. Necropsy results confirmed the non- neuropathogenic strain of EHV-1.
• Georgia, Athens--As of Feb. 18, the only
positive is an index case, which was euthanized
due to the poor prognosis. The UGA Teaching
Hospital on Feb. 17 released 19 horses from 14
other premises that were possibly exposed but were asymptomatic after being held under a 14-day quarantine.
• Illinois, DuPage County--As of Feb. 18, a horse was euthanized after testing positive, resulting in a 21-day extension of quarantine and making the documented count nine infected horses with three of those being euthanized.
• Louisiana, Vinton--As of Feb. 8, Delta Downs placed a ban on any horses from New Mexico or Arizona until further notice.
• New Mexico, Sunland Park--As of Feb. 25, there was one new positive horse in a new barn, making a total of 73 positives.
So far, 24 barns have been returned from “exposed” to “non- exposed” status. Sunland Park Racetrack and Frontera Training
Center remain within the quarantine perimeter.
• New Mexico, Albuquerque--As of Feb. 8,
The Downs at Albuquerque shut down the barn area
and no horses were allowed to enter. Horses were able to leave, but not re-enter.
• New York, Chemung County--As of Feb. 16, a mare was confirmed positive for the non-
neuropathogenic strain of EHV-1. The mare & all other horses on the farm were quarantined.
• Oklahoma, Oklahoma City--As of Feb. 12, admittance to the Remington Park stable area
is open and training races began Feb. 17.
• Pennsylvania—Doylestown--As of Jan. 8, four horses were euthanized, six
had neurological impairment & three had fever, but no neurological impairment.
• Texas, El Paso--As of Feb. 22, two horses were confirmed to have EHV-1,
but neither developed neurological signs to date. The stable
was still under movement restriction as a precaution.
• Texas--As of Feb. 25 at Lone Star Park & As of March 6 at Sam
Houston Race Park, no horses will be admitted on grounds if they come from a county
with a facility or racetrack that is under quarantine or
if they come from a county adjacent to a county where
quarantine has been implemented.
