The Mexican Association of Breeders and Horsemen of Quarter Horses (AMCCCCM)
on April 30 held the annual dinner to recog- nize and reward 19 horses and seven individuals or stables that stood out in the racing season of 2015 at the Hipodromo de las Americas. The ceremony was led by Mr. Antonio Lobeto Tamez, President of the association, a subsidiary of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA); who had special guest Lic. José Manuel Alavez, President of the Association for the Development and Promotion of Horse Riding in Mexico. During the awards ceremony, he aired a video and an account of the main achievements of each honoree.
Outstanding runner recognized for his perfor- mance was Senor Cawboy, who with a few races captured three titles and won for Cuadra Avar the two-horse trailer that is awarded annually by the AQHA to the individual with the most earnings, which in this case came from his victory in the Auction Selecta Futurity. Among others recognized was the Haras Ixbiapan team, which was awarded twice as Champion Stable via points and distin- guished Clasicos.
The awards granted to the colt Senor Cawboy were: Mexican Champion by the AQHA, Champion Mexican Two Year Old and Best Mexican Individual. Bred in Sinaloa, Mexico, in the fields of Cuadra La Presita, owned by Doctor Anselmo Aguilar Payan,
he was sold as a yearling at the Selecta Auction at the Hipodromo de las Americas to Jose Ravel Baltazar for Cuadra Avar, reaching a price of 205,000 pesos in the sales ring (US $15,770 approximately).
Senor Cawboy is individual an which his breeder may not have seen carving out as a cham- pion. Enrolled at the auction to the Auction Selecta Futurity and Derby, he won the first in a land- slide under the leadership of Martin Hernandez Bautista. It was a victory that gave him sufficient merit to be recognized.
He is a son of the stallion Senior Solo (by Mr Jess Perry) and out of the mare Takin Cash SLC (by Takin On The Cash), the same mare declared Broodmare of the Year.
Regarding Haras Ixbiapan, the individuals making the main contribution to be distinguished as Champion Stable by Points and Clasicos Won were: Flamazoom, a sorrel son of Azoom (bred on the property they have in Texas, under the name
of Azoom Ranch), who won the AQHA Bank Of America Maiden Challenge; Sound Of Candy who led the team to the winner’s circle three times, com- ing in first at the AQHA Derby Challenge, Mexican Derby, and Clasico Felix Bañuelos Jimenez. Sound Of Candy is a daughter of Red Storm Cat out of Connemara Girl, by Corona Cartel, who was bred in the United States by Carl C. Pevehouse. She had the decisive support of jockeys Eddi Cuellar and Moises González García.
