Since its inception years ago, the original Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award was based on achievement and through their achievement we have honored many of our industry’s great broodmares. The naming of the 2015 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year follows that long standing tradition.
The 2015 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year award is dedicated to highlighting the contribution of the mare to the racehorse industry by bringing together the top mares from four AQHA racing categories:
• Dams of 2015 Champions
• Top 5 Dams of 2015 Money Earners
• Top 5 Dams of 2015 Stakes Winners (ranked
first by number of Stakes Winners & second by Money Earned)
The nominees from these categories per- sonify what it takes to be a great broodmare, and all of these mares were worthy candidates who competed to be named the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year. The broodmares were awarded points based on their placing in the respective categories they qualified for: 5 points for number one in a category down to 1 point for fifth place. The dams of Champions are awarded 5 points for World Champion, 4 for overall divisional Champions and 3 for age division Champions. The dams of Champions are awarded the higher points when one of her foals receives several championship awards.
Only Quarter Horse foals are considered and listed for each mare. Under each mare’s name is a summary of her 2015 produce record.
Leading Money Earner with 2015 Earnings. This is followed by the the categories by
which the mare made the list of nominees. Her leading 2015 starter is next, then any additional 2015 starters. At the end of the nominee infor- mation is the point breakdown for each mare.
A big part of the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award is to identify the top mares in each category and that is the purpose of this summary. We hope that you enjoy reading about some of the industry’s best broodmares of 2015.
The 2015 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award winner is Dasha Freda. The owner will receive an engraved trophy signifying their mare as the winner. Dasha Freda is covered in depth in this Broodmare Issue. .
