TOGETHER TO THE END
by Michael Compton
Alejandro Moya’s two-year-old homebred sorrel filly Together To The End remained perfect after the first two starts of her career with a game score in the $233,578 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity-G3 at Louisiana Downs that was contested on March 22.
The precocious filly was the second fastest qualifier from the 300-yard trials following a 1 3/4-lengths victory in her March 4th heat under Eddie Sanchez.
With Sanchez back in the irons for the featured event, Together To The End broke on top and maintained her position throughout the race.
Despite being chased by the fastest qualifier Captain Jimbob through the lane, Together To The End was never headed and was just up to finish a neck in front for a wire- to-wire victory.
Together To The End, the third choice in the wagering at odds of 9-2, covered the distance in :15.426 and earned a career high speed index of 96.
The $105,110 winner’s share of the purse increased Together To The End’s cumulative bankroll to $106,910 from just two lifetime starts for trainer Jose Sanchez.
Together To The End
was bred in Texas by owner Alejandro Moya out of three-time winner Gabbey Holland, who earned a 101 speed index and over $15,000 in her racing career.
As a mare, she has pro- duced 100% money/ROM earners from three starters. Together To The End is her top earner as well as her first stakes winner.
Together To The End’s third dam is
stakes placed Genuine Knockout, who is by 1981 World Champion Special Effort and
out of stakes winner Possumjet, who is by Jet Deck. Genuine Knockout is a multiple stakes producer, including All American Futurity-G1 winner Falling In Loveagain.
All American Futurity-G1 winner Possumjet has a race record of 23-12(1)- 6(5)-3 with cumulative earnings of $406,811. Possumjet also scored second place finishes in the Blue Ribbon Futurity, South Texas Derby, Top Deck Stakes, Three Bars Handicap and the Worlds Championship Classic.
Fastest qualifier Captain Jimbob (Desirio-War Silks), the second choice at 7-2, just missed under Rene Gutierrez. He broke second and dueled throughout, but couldn’t forge past the winner late. The sorrel colt is owned by Felix J. Martinez and trained by Wendy Garcia.
Hez Our Boy (Hez Our Secret-Strawberry Cartel) finished third in the blanket
finish under Manuel Gutierrez as the 5-2 race favorite. The gray gelding is owned by Almada Racing and is conditioned by Josue Ponce. Hez Our Boy won his trial race to qualify ninth.
Emnent (Dominyun-Bodacious Dream) finished fourth and was followed by NSM Cherokee Warrior (Jess Louisiana Blue- Corona With Ice), Aguila (One Famous Eagle-Quick Moon Sign), Krashing Runaway (Krash Cartel-Runaway Indya), Louisiana Silk (The Louisiana Cartel-Pampered Silk), Ancient Of Days (FDD Going Grand- Royally Streak) and Shades Of Gray (Ivory James-Verrsace).
