Wdc Woody B Fast, a bay son of Woodbridge owned by Barton Ranch Stables LLC and trainer Blake Rust and the second-fastest qualifier, sprinted to a wire- to-wire, three-quarter length victory in the May 14, $110,213 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) for state-bred juveniles at SunRay Park.
Ridden by Martin Felix and sent to post as the 6-1 fourth choice in the full field of 10, Wdc Woody B Fast covered 350 yards in :17.476 and earned a 90 speed index while aided by a reported 12-mph tail wind. The $51,800 winner’s share of the purse bumped the gelding’s bankroll to $53,600 from two outs.
Wdc Woody B Fast made his debut with a one-length win in his Breeders’ Futurity trial on April 28. The gelding was bred by Denton Crozier of Hobbs, New Mexico, and his sire, Woodbridge, is an unraced 18-year-old son of Dash Ta Fame and
the multiple graded stakes winning Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane.
A full brother to Grade 1 winner Kendall Jackson and a half brother to 2015 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White, Woodbridge has sired the earners of more than $2.4 million from 10 crops, including multiple graded stakes winner Carson City Girl and graded stakes winners Threedeewoodee, Woodys Allstar, Woody Dungarees, and Wdc Wendys Wine. The stallion is owned by and stands for a $2,500 fee at Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico.
Wdc Woody B Fast’s dam, Signs Of Speeding, is an unraced homebred 12-year- old daughter of Vital Sign. The gelding’s second dam, the stakes-winning Twaynas Dash mare Twas Speeding, ran second in the 1994 Boise Derby (G3) at Les Bois Park.
Wdc Woody B Fast returned a $14.80 win mutuel and paired with runner-up 13-1 longshot Osbaldo Blue Diamond for a $2 exacta dividend of $152.20. Bug Daddy Cartel, the fastest qualifier and 17-10 favorite, ran third, one length behind the winner to complete a $294.20 ($1) trifecta.
Frangellica finished fourth, 1 1/4 lengths behind Wdc Woody B Fast. Soxx Ar, A Diamond Mercedes, Jans Cartel, Big Daddy Kp, Flash Of Victory, and Redd Metal completed the order of finish.
Osbaldo Blue Diamond is a homebred daughter of the Jesse James Jr stallion Osbaldo owned by Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico. The gray filly has banked $22,558 from four outs.
Bug Daddy Cartel broke his maiden with a neck victory in the last of four
New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity trials. A homebred bay colt by second-year sire
Big Daddy Cartel, Bug Daddy Cartel has won one of three races, and the $12,124 third-place share of the purse increased his earnings to $14,814 for his owner, Jesus M. Estrada.
