Douglas Clayton Davidson 1949 - 2017
Douglas Clayton Davidson, 68, of Farmington, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 6, 1949, in Farmington to Elmer Dewey and Frieda Foutz Davidson.
Doug graduated from Kirtland Central High School in 1967, and attended New Mexico Technical Institute, but his passion was horses. Doug was a highly regarded jockey for 29 years and retired to become a trainer for 20+ years. He always said, “His talent was all in his hands.” His race track family meant everything to him. Doug always went out of his way to help fellow riders, friends, or family, and loved his animals no matter how big or small.
Steven Prather 1957 - 2017
Steven Dean Prather, 59, was born August 29, 1957 in Denver City, TX, to Paul ‘’Dink’’ and
Bessie Prather. He passed away on May 13, 2017 in Houston, TX. Steven had numerous achievements
in his life and was a member of various associations, including: working alongside his father Dink at Chaparral Service, Inc. in Eunice, NM, until it was sold in 2006; was a Master Mason of the Eunice Masonic Lodge since March of 1982; served on the Lea County Fair Board from October 17, 1988 to May 19, 1993; was a member of the State Board
for the New Mexico Horseman’s Association in
2005 and 2006; served on the Zia Park Horseman’s Committee in 2005 and then again from 2011 through 2016; and served on the New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association Board of Trustees in 2015 and 2016. Steve owned and operated Doubletree Farm
Doug is survived by his wife, Nanette; son, Darren (Kimberly) Davidson; stepchildren, Ryan Fetters and Rachelle Stewart; four grandchildren; his siblings, Sherri Sue Titus, Lynda Storme Thompson (Norman), Michael (Cynthia) Davidson, Dayna Bush, Starr (Mark) Seifried and Michelle Bergal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life was held April 29 along with “Doug Day at the Races” at the SunRay Park and Casino in Farmington, NM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Making A Mark, The Mark A. Villa Memorial Foundation, at P.O. Box 41233, Phoenix, AZ 85080.
and also recently received the Jim Curry Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Mexico Horseman’s Association for the year of 2016.
He married Susan Hughes on April 20, 2002 in Hobbs, NM, and is survived by his wife, Susan Prather of Hobbs, NM; children, Adrianne Williams and husband Todd of Lubbock, TX, Rowdy Prather of Clovis, NM, Russell Pickerel of Eunice, NM, Kevin Pickerel of Midland, TX, Jarod Pickerel, of Hobbs, NM; his mother, Bessie Prather of Hobbs, NM; two sisters, Stephanie Prather of Alamogordo, NM and Sherry Prather of Eunice, NM; grandchildren, Allison Williams, Alexandria Prather and Reese Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and very special friends.
