THE THRILL OF THE WIN
Pete’s first stakes winner, A Lil Tres Seis, won the 2008 East Juvenile Challenge-G3
at Delta Downs and the Garden District Stakes in New Orleans after placing third in the Firecracker Futurity-G1. She then placed third in the AQHA East Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 at Evangeline Downs and in the 2009 East Derby Challenge-G3, earning more than $100,000 in her track career.
The Tres Seis mare out of Special Task daughter A Lil Known Fact, A Lil Tres Seis has now graduated to Pete’s broodmare band. “You start trying to win something and it’s just really exciting when you finally do win,” Pete says. “A Lil Tres Seis has given me a couple babies; they’re showing some promise and it’s been fun to watch!
“I’ve won some good races, but none of the big, major races yet,” Pete adds. “Here
in Texas, our biggest futurities are the Sam Houston, the TQHA Sale Futurity, the Dash

For Cash and the Texas Classic, and last year I was fortunate to qualify for all of those, and all with homebreds.”
One of those homebreds, graded stakes- placed gelding This Is A Deal (Dealagame – Lady Lilia, First Down Dash), placed second in the Sam Houston Futurity-G2 in 2015
and followed that by winning his trial for the Ruidoso Futurity, then placing second in his trials for the Rainbow, the All American, and the Texas Classic futurities. His career earnings tally $146,878.
Another of his bred-and-owns, Kid Can Dash (Down N Dash – Quickid Perry, Mr Jess Perry), won the Sam Houston Maiden Classic in April of this year and qualified for the TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby in June.
Swifter Deal, by Dealagame and out of
the Mr Eye Opener daughter Eye Be Swift, qualified for the Adequan Texas Derby Challenge in May of this year.
Raising Kain wins the 2014 AQHA Sam Houston Race Park Derby Challenge.
And, 3 year old Dash Dont Cheat, by Down N Dash and out of Jess Special daughter Special Cheat, ranked 43rd by wins in his freshman year, winning $91,198 thus far including winning his trials for the TQHA Sale Futurity, the Dash For Cash Futurity, the Evangeline Downs Futurity and the Sam Houston Derby.
Pete considers his all-time top three runners to be A Lil Tres Seis; his graded stakes-winning stallion Dealagame (Game Patriot – Dealafly, Strawfly Special), who won in excess of $230,000 — more than any of the horses he’s raced; and Raising Kain, a graded stakes winner by Down N Dash and out of Smooth Money Raiser, by Smooth Bravado. Raising Kain brought home $138,877 in three years on the track, winning five of 17 starts with two seconds and four thirds. Among his wins are the Retama Juvenile Challenge and the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 in 2013, and the Sam Houston Derby Challenge and TQHA Sale Derby Trial in 2014.
