TELAROSA

Douglas Traylor’s talented filly Telarosa made it three consecutive victories with a game score in the $303,777 LQHBA Sale
Futurity-RG1 at Fair Grounds on Sept. 5. The speedy daughter of Jet Black Patriot
won her trial heat on Aug. 15, leading the 350- yard test from gate to wire as the second-fastest qualifier for the main event.
No secret heading into the rich contest, Telarosa was bet down to the 8-5 race favorite. With regular rider Lucas Constantin aboard, Telarosa chased fastest qualifier and early leader Micmac Warrior in third position away from the gate. She dug in gamely to collar that rival nearing the finish, ultimately prevailing by a nose on the line.
Telarosa stopped the timer in :17.424 and earned a speed index of 97 in capturing her first stakes event for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. Telarosa likes to win, but not by much. Her two previous wins each came by a neck. The $121,512 winner’s share of the lucrative purse raised her bankroll to $145,407. Traylor bought Telarosa for $30,000 at last year’s LQHBA Yearling Sale.
James Ronald Magnon bred the pre- cocious filly in Louisiana out of the
winless Thoroughbred mare Presumptuous. A $160,000 Keeneland September year-
ling sale purchase in 2000, Presumptuous was bought by prominent owner G. Watts Humphrey. She started in a
pair of maiden special weight events without hitting the board.
Presumptuous is the dam of 100% money earners from 4 Thoroughbred and 2 Quarter Horse starters. Telarosa is her 1st stakes win- ner. Her other Quarter Horse runner Jess For Ron was a finalist in last year’s Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2.
Roberts noted to the press after the win that the Thoroughbred influence in Telarosa’s pedi- gree played into the decision to acquire the filly, saying, “We thought that would be a good fac- tor in her getting the distance down the road. She showed a little of that today. She broke well, but really put it together down the lane.”
Telarosa’s sire, Jet Black Patriot is a mul- tiple graded stakes winner owned by Jet Black Company LLC. The nine-year-old stallion stood the 2015 season at Robicheaux Ranch.
Runner-up Micmac Warrior (Heza Fast Dash- Sneaking N Dashing) dashed to the front early and just missed under Alfonso Lujan. The gelding races for We All In Racing LLC and is trained by Trey Ellis.
Telarosa and Micmac Warrior are both eligi- ble for the $1 million LQHBA Breeders Futurity at Evangeline Downs. Trials are set for Nov. 6.
Jockey Patrick Watson got The Renaissance Man (Coronas Leaving You-Jewels Fortune) rolling late to get up for third. The 2-time winner and multiple stakes-placed gelding, also trained by Roberts, is owned by Chad Hart and Bobby Cox.
Tellem Shes Game (Game Patriot-Tellem Shes Gone), Jet Black Zoomer (Jet Black Patriot-Dealazoom), Carry On Game (Game Patriot-Carry On Tee), Zoominforgrady (Zoomin For Bux-Supers First Jewel), Shades Of Buck (Game Patriot-Shaded Sins), RI Blue Picture (Jess Louisiana Blue-Picture Perfect Tee) and Miss Mallard Struts (Struttin to Beduino- Miss Mallard) completed the order of finish.
