Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Dates Set
Lone Star Park has set the dates for the $50,000-added Grade 1 Lone Star Paint & Ap- paloosa Futurity, the third leg of the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown. Trials to the Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futu- rity will be contested on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, and the finals we be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012.

in the finals. The 1993 gray stallion earned a 107 speed index and $27,814 in earnings. He became a leading sire with 48 stakes horses and over $11 million. His top earner is 400-yard World Record setter and multiple graded stakes winner Blazin N Shakin ($635,335).
Rainbow Futurity Date Changed
The date of this year’s Rainbow Futurity- G1 and Rainbow Juvenile have been moved from Saturday, July 21, 2012, to Sunday, July 22, 2012. The Rainbow Derby will remain on July 21 as originally scheduled.
Remington Park Declares 2012 Champions
Remington Park declared their 2012 Quarter Horse and Mixed Meet Champions on June 15. AQHA’s 2011 World Champion Cold
All American Futurity. All of the post-race tests from the All American Futurity, which are the responsibility of the New Mexico Racing Com- mission, came back clean.
Seven people were arrested in the initial raids in early June following a federal grand jury indictment on charges of money launder- ing. (See the June 22 issue of Speedhorse for complete details.) Two more people have since been detained—Raul Ramirez was arrested, and Francisco Antonio Colorado Cessa turned himself in to authorities in south Texas.
Allen Moehrig Passes Away
Allen Moehrig of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away June 24 at the age of 81. Born
in 1930, Allen married Jeanette Hoffman in 1950, and in 1953 their son Dennis was born. Allen Moehrig was influential in the Quarter Horse industry, and is perhaps best known as the man who bred and raised World Champion Special Effort, Quarter Horse racing’s only Triple Crown winner. Moehrig’s other horses of note include two-time Champion Eyesa Special (bred with Marvin Selig), two-time Champion Dashin Is Easy (also bred with Selig), and Champion Jodys Glory (breeder). Moehrig will be inducted into the Texas Race Horse Hall of Fame in October. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, son, Dennis, and numerous other family members and friends.
Chicks A Blazin Euthanized
Cash 123 (Oak Tree Special-Hot Cash 123) was named Horse of the Meet as well as Champion Older Male. The 4-year-old gelding, owned and bred by T Bill Stables and trained by Dwayne “Sleepy” Gilbreath, competed twice at the Oklahoma City track winning the $250,000 Remington Park Championship-G1 and the $100,000 Leo Stakes-G1. Steve Holt’s home- bred colt Lota PYC (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Lotawatah) was named Champion 2-Year-Old; James Sills and Abel Flores’ gelding A Toss Up (Sweet First Down-Shake Cartel) was named Champion 3-Year-Old; Steve Holt’s 4-year-old gelding De Passem Okey (Okey Dokey Dale- Impassable Gal TB) was named Champion Distance Horse and Champion Oklahoma-Bred Horse; Raymundo Villareal, Jr.’s Eyegotitgoinon (Mr Eye Opener-Cant Hide Love) was named Champion Claiming Horse; Mary Hainline’s 2-year-old Paint colt Ubuyillfly (Country Quick Dash-Strafing Run QH) was named Champion Paint; and Racin RNs 3-year-old Appaloosa colt Captain Bucko (Cartel Success QH-Joyball) was named Champion Appaloosa.
Carl Pevehouse was the Leading Owner
by Wins with 13, Raymundo Villareal, Jr. was the Leading Owner by Earnings with nearly $500,000. Eddie Willis received the Jack Brooks Award as the Leading Trainer by Wins with 42 as well as by Earnings with over $1.3 million, and G.R. Carter, Jr. was the Leading Jockey by Wins, with 77, and Earnings, with over $1.8 million.

Grade 1 Recipe:
Combine Karo syrup, butter & sugar in a large saucepan and boil for one minute. Stir in vanilla and peanut butter. Once melted, remove from heat and add cereal. Stir to coat and spread on a greased 9x9 pan to cool. Cut into squares & enjoy!
