   The 14th annual Los Alamitos Equine Sale recorded
a 20.6% increase in gross sales compared to 2017 figures. Preliminary results for the sale, which was held Oct. 6-7 at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California, reported that 255 horses sold for $5,702,200, with a sale average of $22,362, up 9% from last year’s $20,604.
The $190,000 high seller was Hip #280 Requiring Fire (Walk Thru Fire-No Tools Required, Jody O Toole), a yearling filly con- signed by Vista Equine Colorado LLC, Agent and purchased by Donald Cavanaugh. Requiring Fire is a full sister to stakes winner Required Fire, who is the dam of multiple stakes winner Jess Fire Chick, and a half-sister to Grade 2 winner One Hot Mecanic. The filly is by World Champion sire Walk Thru Fire and out of mul- tiple graded stakes winner No Tools Required by Jody O Toole.
The second-highest seller at $112,000 was Hip #252 Made Over (Favorite Cartel-Make Over, Separatist), a sorrel yearling colt consigned by Edward Allred and purchased by Juniors Quar- ter Horses Inc. Made Over is a half-brother to 2-time Graded stakes winner New Look, is sired by multiple graded stakes win- ner/Champion sire Favorite Cartel, and he is out of a half-sister to the dam of 5-time Champion Catchmeinyourdreams. His second dam is All American Futurity-G1 winner Elans Special.
