Moonin The Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Your First Moon, First Down Dash) set a New World Record for American Quarter Horses sold at auction on Nov. 2 when the hammer fell at $2.1 million at the Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale.
Consigned by AECOM/URS Federal Services, Chris Benedict, Agent, the 2012 gray stallion
was purchased by Bobby D. Cox. Chad Hart of Hart Farms did the bidding. Previously owned by Gregorio Garcia Garza, Moonin The Eagle had been standing at Chris and Vickie Benedict’s DLR Ranch in Texas his first two years at stud after being seized by the Treasury Department in 2016. There were 30 frozen semen permits retained on the stallion.
Moonin The Eagle was the 2016 Champion Aged Stallion. Earning $548,985 in his career,
the stallion also set a New Track Record in the 440-yard Hialeah Maturity, then came back in his next start to better that record in the Sam Abbey Memorial Invitational. In all, his race record is 7(4)-2(2)-1 from 14 starts, with additional stakes victories in the Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1 and South Florida Derby. He was also second in the Refrigerator Handicap-G1 and Hialeah Derby, and was a finalist in the Rainbow Derby-G1 and Sam Houston Derby-G3.
The stallion’s first foals arrived in 2018 with only 3 registered foals. The 2019 fee for Moonin The Eagle will be $5,000.
Speedhorse would like to congratulate Bobby Cox, Heritage Place, and all the connections of Moonin The Eagle.
