LOUISIANA BRED AWARDS PROGRAM (BREEDER AWARDS)
MARE AWARDS
Breeders (owner/lessee of the mare at time of foaling) of Accredited Louisiana Bred foals receive breeder awards from the State of Louisiana, La State Racing Commission, or the LQHBA when their Accredited Louisiana Bred quarter horse finishes first, second or third in an Accredited Louisiana Bred race or an open race in Louisiana. Mare awards are 25% of what their Accredited Louisiana Bred foals earn for finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th in the state.
Effective June 2016 – LQHBA will begin paying Breeders Awards (mare awards) through last place for all horses that qualify and earn purse money in all accredited Louisiana-Bred Futurity and Derby Finals as well as the three Louisiana Champions Day stakes!
In 2015, LQHBA paid over $4,500,000 in Mare Awards!
STALLION AWARDS
Stallion owners whose stallions have sired Accredited Louisiana Bred offspring that finish first, second or third in Stakes, Handicap, Allowance & Trial races in Louisiana earn stallion awards. (Maiden & Claiming races are not considered)
Stallion awards are paid after the end of the breeders fund fiscal year, June 30. Awards are paid by the Louisiana State Racing Commission and the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association.
The amount of each stallion’s award is directly proportional to the amount of money his offspring earn in the fiscal year of July 1 - June 30.
As of 2015, Stallion Awards total $500,000 annually!
