his future foals; they have given others the opportunity to participate in his ownership; and they have shared the risk of the horse.
The people at Buena Suerte Ranch are very proud to have reached this milestone in the Quarter Horse industry. Dr. Blach says, “I think it’s a great step ahead for our industry in that we’ll see more syndications taking place. Another advantage is that it will disperse some of the greater mares who have been breeding to Easy Jet in the past to other stallions in
the future. This is not to say that the quality of mares now booked to Easy Jet has been reduced. The members of the syndicate, who range from the East to the West coasts, have some very classic mares. I think we’ll see
the value of his foals increase in the future.
Recently at a Buena Suerte Ranch sale, we had a yearling sell for $350,000 which was a record price. I predict that we’ll see yearlings selling for $500,000 and more.
“I’m extremely proud to have been a part of Buena Suerte Ranch and the Easy Jet syndication. It’s truly a milestone that we’ve all reached together. I think it’s extremely important to in relation to the New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association in that we are a young group struggling to become organized. We have made some great strides in getting more money funded for the New Mexico races. I feel that the efforts made by all of
us will make this a strong breeder’s group recognized all over the country. We’re very fortunate to have people like Harriet,
founder of Buena Suerte Ranch, put faith
in our state, our racing and our breeder’s program. Not to mention Walter Merrick, who is very much involved in the ranch. I think they are two of the finest people in the Quarter Horse industry and that we’re very fortunate to have them associated with our New Mexico program. Hopefully, we can continue to attract people like these two in the industry to locate in New Mexico.”
Easy Jet exemplifies what Walter Merrick set out to do with race horses almost fifty years ago. He believes that crossing sprinting Thoroughbreds with Quarter Horses produced a “hybrid vigor,” and Easy Jet stands out as the best product of Merrick’s breeding theory.
