The Thoroughbred pedigree analysts Leon Rasmussen and Rommy Faversham call this breeding theory “Inbreeding to Superior Females.” Under the title “Rasmussen Factor” or RF for short, they have reported the influence of outstanding females on the pedigree by linebreeding through these important mares.
A great example of this pattern is found in the pedigree of 2014 and 2016 Thoroughbred Horse of the Year California Chrome. California Chrome is out of Love The Chase by Not For Love who is out of Dance Number who is out of Numbered Account. The dam of Love The Chase is Chase It Down by Polish Numbers who is out of Numbered Account. This gives Love The Chase a breeding pattern of 3x3 to the mare Numbered Account. Numbered Account has a breeding pattern of 4x5 to La Troienne, a mare that is often inbred to the Thoroughbred.
Here is an example of linebreeding to a mare that has influenced the Quarter Horse. Beggar Boy, found in the pedigree of FDD Dynasty, has a breeding pattern of 6x5x5
to Queen Mary. Queen Mary is the dam of Bonnie Scotland and his half-sister Bonnie Doon. Beggar Boy is by Black Toney who is out of Belgravia by Ben Brush. Ben Brush
is a grandson of Bonnie Scotland. The dam of Ben Brush is Bonnie Gal who is out of Bonnie Doon. This is a breeding pattern
