Zero Tolerance At Hialeah Meet
Hialeah Park and the Florida Quarter Horse Racing Assocaition will be enforcing extremely strict medication policies during the upcoming Quarter Horse meet, which begins Dec. 15. Penalties for trace amounts of unauthor- ized substances, including zilpaterol, ractopa- mine and dermorphin, will be at least as severe as the Association of Racing Commissioners International (RCI) Rules of Racing penalties.
Florida calls for zero tolerance on medica- tions such as clenbuterol, and trace amounts will be considered as a positive test. Trainers and owners are encouraged to visit www.arci. com to read “Equine Veterinary Practices, Health and Medication” information under the Model Rules of Racing for a summary of levels and penalties. Hialeah will have final authority on their medication rules, which will be pub- lished in their 2012/2013 condition book.
