Diabolical Gator, a homebred 4-year-old Diabolical gelding owned by J. Kirk and Judy Robison of El Paso, Texas, parlayed a sharp break from post 4 into a wire-to-wire victory in the September 1, $25,000 Attila’s Storm Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds at Ruidoso Downs.
Prepped by Joel Marr, Diabolical Gator defeated Rig Time by 2 1/4 lengths while covering his 5 1/2-furlong trip in 1:02.55 on a track officially labeled “good.” Miguel Fuentes Jr. rode the gelding, who was recording his third consecutive win.
Diabolical Gator is one of 107 winners from 137 starters sired by Diabolical, a Grade 2-win- ning 15-year-old son of the Marquetry stallion Artax and a half brother to two-time Group 3 winner What A Name (IRE). Diabolical has sired 10 official black-type stakes winners and the earners of more than $6.9 million from
six crops, including multiple stakes winners Diabolical Dame, Liberty Lover, and That’s The Idea, and stakes winners Mays Or Mantle and My Mirage.

and J. Kirk Robison, and he stands for a $4,000 fee and Fred and Linda Alexander’s A & A Ranch at Anthony, New Mexico.
Diabolical Gator is one of four winners from as many starters produced by Gator Prowl, an 11-year-old daughter of the Storm Cat stallion Roar Of The Tiger who won the 2010 Marshua Stakes at Laurel Racecourse
in Maryland. The gelding is a full brother
to Fast Gator, a filly whose four stakes wins include last year’s New Mexico Cup Lassie Championship (R) at Zia Park, and he is a half to 2015 Dine Stakes (R) winner Gator Heat.
Diabolical Gator traces back to his fourth dam, What A Future, a Roberto mare who pro- duced two-time graded stakes winner Whata Brainstorm.

All told, the gelding has won six of eight outs, and the $15,000 winner’s share of the Attila’s Storm Stakes purse pushed his earnings to $110,640, of which $94,740 has been pocketed this year.
D E Lover finished third, 3 3/4 lengths behind Diabolical Gator. Four Star Saint and The Waki Rapper completed the order of finish.

A homebred gray or roan son of Right Rigger owned by brothers Larry Teague and Harry Teague of Hobbs, New Mexico, the gelding has won three of six starts and has earned $57,600.
