DASHNUNDER AFULLMOON

Dashnunder Afullmoon had a 50/50
shot at making the LQHBA Lassie Futurity-RG2. After securing the final spot in
the field by winning a shake, the filly pulled off a stunner in the $322,285 stakes final, making a solid rally late to emerge victorious at Delta Downs on May 19.
Dashnunder Afullmoon won her first out in the April 28 futurity trial to the finals, but her :16.937 time tied for 10th on the qualifying ladder with Fastdashing Lassie. Dashnunder Afullmoon won a shake held by the stewards and secured her opportunity in the final. She made the most of that chance.
The filly made a solid break from the 4-gate and was running third at the first call. She pulled to a close second as she entered the stretch, then pushed past the rest to reach the finish line first by a head.
Eddie Sanchez, son of the filly’s trainer Jose Sanchez, was the jockey aboard Dashnunder Afullmoon, who finished the 330-yard trip in :16.644, for a career high 97 speed index.
Rogelio Marquez, Jr. owns the filly who brought home the $161,142 winner’s share of the purse that improved her total earnings to $167,142. Dashnunder Afullmoon went off as an underdog at almost 29-1 odds at post time.
“She didn’t break that
fast because she’s not a
good breaker,” the younger Sanchez told stallionesearch. com following the race. “I’m speechless, I don’t know what to say. She’s a good horse. She’s good-bred. She’s got
a good mama and broth-
ers. I thought I had a good chance.”
Jose Sanchez also trains
pre-race betting favorite
TTT Kas, who was the fastest qualifier and finished third in the finals.
“We know that the filly...is well bred, she’s good-bred and she is improving a lot,” Jose told stallionesearch.com. “[TTT Kas] she ran well in the Mardi Gras and she improved this time.”
Still, the trainer had a good feeling about the potential of Dashnunder Afullmoon.
“I told my boy, if this filly gets [her] mind right, she’s going to be pretty tough,” Sanchez said to stallionesearch.com.
Dashnunder Afullmoon was bred by D&S Racing LLC, which is now known as Spring Hill Farms, out of Full Moon Dasher. The mare won the 2001 Four Corners Senora
Stakes and finished third in the 2011 Ruidoso Distaff Challenge. She has produced 100% money earners from
5 starters, including stakes placed Jen And Vodka. Dashnunder Afullmoon is her first stakes winner as well as her top earner.
Jorge Meraz owns TTT Kas (Kas I Said So-Ima Georgiababy), who finished second with Raul Ramirez, Jr.
in the irons.
Shez Dead Serious (Swingin Jess-Deadly),
the biggest longshot in the field at odds of almost 39-1, hit the board in third place. Pete A. Scarmardo owns the filly and Brian Stroud trains her. Donald Guynes drew the riding assignment.
The remaining order of finish was Bureaucracy B (Coronas Leaving You-Sheza Lilbituino), Jess Political (Jess Louisiana Blue- Apolitical Jet), Miss Tee Lajolla (Tee Cos- Mean Norma Jean), Tee Magica (Tee Cos-La Magica), JRS Egos Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Egos Toast), Little Debbie (Bedouin Cartel-JP Straight Shot) and Eying Louisiana Game (Game Patriot-Eyeing Miss Perry).
