Jack Manning
We express our deepest sympathy for the family and friends of Jack Manning, 96, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2022, in Odessa, Texas.
Winefred ‘Mickey’ Byers
Micky was a long-time NMHBA member and breeder who passed away on July 21, 2022. She was married to jockey and trainer Larry Byers. Mickey is survived by their two children Kelly and Billy, grandchildren Shelby, Larry and Meagan, & her two sisters, Maureen Murphy and Jeanne Lidberg.
Larry E. Pickard
Larry E. Pickard, 87, of rural Hooker, Oklahoma passed away August 28, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Larry, affectionately known as “Pick”, was born May 6, 1935, in Guymon, Oklahoma to Oral Clyde and Clara Mildred (Lening) Pickard. Larry attended school in Guymon, graduating with the Class of 1953. He devoted his life to Christ at the Foursquare Church when he was 4 years old. He grew up playing football and riding horses. Larry married the love of his life, Myrna Lea Elliott on October 28, 1956, in Hardesty, Oklahoma. Together they raised their three children: Tony, Rick, and Kelly. Larry and
his family moved to Hooker in 1961, where
he worked in the petroleum industry as well
as farming. He was a hard worker and if he wasn’t working, he wasn’t happy. Larry loved all animals, and they loved him in return. He had a special passion for horses and enjoyed team penning and sorting for many years. He loved riding and sharing his horses in his arena with his dear friends and family. His wife, Myrna was always close by, running the show from
the crow’s nest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oral Pickard and Clara Gerstner, daughter, Kelly Pickard and sister, Shirley Wheeler. He is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Myrna Pickard of the home;
two sons: Tony Pickard and Nancy Summers, and Rick Pickard all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three brothers: Bob Pickard and wife, Carla of Italy, Texas; Steve Couch of Houston, Texas and Terry Couch and wife, Sherri of Springfield, Louisiana and four grandchildren: Bobbie Pickard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, John Pickard of Irving, Texas, Brooke Pickard of Weatherford, Texas, and Lakin Pickard of Weatherford, Texas.
Arlan “Bill” Duree
Arlan “Bill” Duree passed away on July 21, 2022, in a tragic car accident. A Celebration of Life for Bill was held on Sunday, August 7 at the Downs of Albuquerque racetrack patio where precious memories of Bill were shared with his family and friends.

Angel-Anne Parr
Angel-Anne Parr passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022, in Albuquerque, New Mexico
at the age of 78. Angel was born on March 31, 1944, in Providence, Rhode Island to Marjorie Angel and LeRoy Holland. She attended Rhode Island College and The University of Rhode Island where she graduated with a BS in Early Childhood Education/Art and an MLS. On November 27, 1992, Angel married Francis (Frank) C. Parr.
Angel and Frank fulfilled their dream of starting a new life in the Southwest. While here in New Mexico, they were so blessed to find so many wonderful friends, who quickly became their Albuquerque family. Angel and Frank immersed themselves in their passion for horses and the racehorse community. Angel enjoyed reading, traveling, and collecting art. She especially loved her horses and all her beloved pets throughout her life. Her “heart horse,” was always, Cheyenne, a gorgeous paint horse. She was a dedicated member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and New Mexico Horse Breeders Association.
Angel is survived by her sons, Mark Randall (Tina) of Warwick, RI and Matthew Randall (Kara) of West Greenwich, RI; stepsons, Jeffrey Parr and Christopher Parr; stepdaughter, Stephanie Dee; grandchildren, Jake, Ethan, Brayden, Conor, Cameron, Maddison, Liam, Ella, James, Renee, and her beloved dog, Tiffany.
Jane Elizabeth Wiggins
Jane Elizabeth Wiggins passed away on June 28, 2022, in Roswell, New Mexico. Jane was born on June 23, 1949, in Roswell, New Mexico to Max Wiggins and Lois Jean Sweatt Wiggins
and was a lifelong resident of Hagerman, New Mexico. Jane received her bachelor’s degree from Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colorado and then went on to obtain her master’s degree in Spanish while attending college in Vermont and Madrid, Spain. Jane loved to travel and owned and operated the E Slash Ranch Thoroughbreds in Hagerman. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
