la PeRRiTa De anya
by Stacy Pigott
la Perrita De Anya is on a roll, finishing first or second in her last four starts including a win in the $28,737 AQRA Futurity on Nov.
11 at Turf Paradise.
La Perrita De Anya started off her career
with promise, qualifying for the Desert Classic Futurity in her first start and running fifth in the May 4 finals. However, she was later dis- qualified and declared unplaced in both races due to a positive drug test in
the trials. The filly had no such trouble in the AQRA trials or finals.
Trained by Ramon Fontes Jr., La Perrita De Anya was an impressive trial winner on Oct. 28, going wire to wire to win by 1 1/4 lengths in
the fastest qualifying time of :17.955. Returning two weeks later for the finals, she turned in an equally impressive run under jockey Rodolfo Arvizu.
Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, La Perrita De Anya was fastest out of the gates and quickly opened up a half-length on the field. Harlee Tucker challenged from the outside, but La Perrita De Anya wouldn’t be denied, cross- ing the finish line a half-length in front. She covered the 350 yards in :17.848.
Octavio Rodriguez, of Tucson, Arizona, bred and owns La Perrita De Anya, whose
name means “Anya’s dog” in Spanish. The filly is sired by Dog Daze Afternoon and is the only foal out of Countess Anya, who was non-placed in five starts. La Perrita
De Anya’s third dam was a graded stakes winner in the late 1980s and 1990.
Both the second- and third-place finishers were owned by Ralph and Carolyn Fales and trained by their son Matthew. Runner-up Harlee
Tucker (Heza Motor Scooter-Phenomena) advanced from fourth to finish second under Nate Smith. Harlee Tucker made her first career start in the trials, qualifying with the ninth- fastest time. Show finisher Madd Dog (Dog Daze Afternoon-Merri Roc) checked into third with Jorge Bourdieu in the irons. Madd Dog ran second in the Desert Classic Futurity and was advanced to win on the disqualification of Lightning Regard for a medication violation.
Jessa Secret (Dejon-Secret Return) ran fourth, followed by Oh Jess Go (Dejon-
Uno Oh), El Piojito Afternoon (Dog Daze Afternoon-Glitter For Corona), Nonitas Scooter (Heza Motor Scooter-Nonas Valentine), Jacque Boy (Heza Motor Scooter- Pipistrelle) and YN Makario (Heza Fast As Cash-Its Fun Being Fickle). Eyesa Dashing Cowboy was a trainer scratch.

Oha Oklahoma Bred Mystery Futurity-RG3
JOKeR On JaCK
by Tracy Gantz
Wade Helton’s Joker On Jack may have cut it close time-wise in his trial for the OHA Oklahoma Bred Mystery Futurity-RG3, but he made up for it in the final. The gelding won by breaking the 350-yard track record at Will Rogers Downs, getting the distance in :17.289 for a 106 speed index. The previous track record was :17.381.
Though Joker On Jack easily won his trial by 1 1/4 lengths, his time of
:17.754 only edged him into
the race as the ninth-fastest
qualifier. Raul Gutierrez rode Joker On Jack in the trial and final.
They drew on the outside for the Oklahoma Bred Mystery final, and Joker On Jack broke toward the outside. He quickly grabbed the lead and powered away from the field with every stride, draw- ing off to win by 2 1/4 lengths.
Alfredo Gomez has trained Joker On Jack for two starts and thus far sports a perfect record with him. Previously, the gelding finished first once in three starts, but was disqualified from purse money after that vic- tory. Joker On Jack ran third in a trial for the All American Futurity-G1, but did not qualify for the final.
Corner K Quarter Horses LLC bred Joker On Jack in Oklahoma. Miss
Six Fortune, his dam, won the 1991 QHBC Classics Futurity. She has produced eight winners from 11 start- ers, including 1998 Central Derby Challenge-G3 winner Runaway Fortune, 2004 Oceanside Handicap winner Start The Commotion, and stakes-placed Full Frontal Assault and Forget Thinkin. Runaway Fortune has subse- quently produced two stakes
winners and a stakes-placed runner. Little Prairie Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Little Prairie) finished second for
jockey Cody Jensen and trainer Robert Dimitt. Arthur Loftis owns the gelding and bred him in partnership with John Turner. Little Prairie Wagon won once in two prior starts.
Agustin Silva rode Last First Kiss (Shazoom-Top Shawne) to third. Kasey Willis trains the three-time winning filly for owner- breeder Alexia Mehrle.
Completing the field were Pajarita Sita (Pappasito-Mongoose Jet Eye), Eye Kelly (Mr Eye Opener-Beam Me Up Kelly), Llano Cartel (Teller Cartel-Eyesa Lil Cuervo), Feline Chic (Country Chicks Man-Felinity), and Jazz Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jazzy Smash). Furraway and This Candys Salty were both scratched.
