RDD Lajollanfastdash is methodically rack- ing up impressive wins in futurities across Louisiana.
The young gelding notched his second
restricted graded futurity victory winning the $323,488 LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1 by a nose on Sept. 3 during the final weekend of the 2016 meet at Fair Grounds Race Course.
Miguel Aguilar owns RDD Lajollanfastdash, who, since making his com- petitive debut on Feb. 20, now has been to the winner’s circle five times in six career starts.
His victory total includes this year’s Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2. And, the $129,396 payday from his most recent victory in the LQHBA Sale Futurity nearly doubled his previous career earnings to a new grand total of $286,477.
All in all, RDD Lajollanfastdash has more than justified the investment made by Aguilar, who bought the gelding for $10,000 at the 2015 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
“We are so proud of this horse,” Aguilar said after the race in a press release. “This is a true team effort and we thank everyone.”
The only misstep so far for RDD Lajollanfastdash was in the Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1, when he finished 10th after get- ting shut off at the start.
The gelding did not get off to the best start in this race, either, but he dug in
late and was the best at the end. RDD Lajollanfastdash was running a close second behind JLS Shakem Tee Cos, both at the first call and going into the stretch, and reached the wire first by a nose.
Trained by Jose Sanchez,
RDD Lajollanfastdash
completed his victorious 350-
yard trip in :17.461 and generated a 95 speed index. That was nearly a quarter-second faster than his effort in qualifying. He won his Aug. 17 trial by a length and stood as the third- fastest qualifier.
“He just dug in and ran such a great race. The two (horse) had me best by 3/4-length and we still came out ahead. His only loss came
in the Lee Berwick; that’s just racing. I knew he would come back strong,” jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr., said in the press release.
Richard Dale Domingue bred RDD Lajollanfastdash and owns the gelding’s dam, La Jollan Queen, a lightly-raced 2006 mare who has produced four offspring, three of whom have made starts and all of those
three are winners. RDD Lajollanfastdash is the only stakes winner in the brood.
An 11-1 longshot, JLS Shakem Tee Cos (Tee Cos- Shaken Thru Zoom) took second by 1⁄2-length for owner Bobby Barnett and trainer Bobby Martinez. Damian Martinez drew the riding assignment. One Hot Flame (Fast Prize Dash-Rump Shakin), the pre-race favorite
and fastest qualifier, hit the board in third place for Double H Racing Investment, LLC. The Adrian Huitron trainee had Manuel Gutierrez aboard. The remaining order of finish was TF Racee Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Racee Rainbows), TF Ms Perry Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Dashadee), Gone Swingin (Swingin Jess-Goinbye), Tellem Im Pumped (Stoli-Pump It Teller), Lightemupwithcharm (Sizzlin Cartel-Grace Filled Charm), MSM Runaway Dash (Sir Runaway Dash-Shez Here To Party) and Fired Up Perry (Game Patriot- Perry Five).
The total purse made this the richest day of the 10-day summer Quarter Horse meet at Fair Grounds.
