Telesforo Perrett’s Zoomin Effortlessly parlayed a sharp break from post 5 into
a dominating 2 1/4-length victory in the $250,000 Albuquerque Fall Championship at Albuquerque Downs on Sept. 25.
Ridden by Santos Carrizales for his brother, trainer Edelmiro Carrizales, Zoomin Effortlessly covered 440 yards in :21.037 while earning a lifetime-best 110 speed index and his fourth stakes win this season. The $137,500 winner’s share of the purse pushed the 5-year- old gelding’s bankroll to $563,565, of which $440,164 has been earned this season.
Zoomin Effortlessly was also nomi-
nated to the 440-yard, $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap-G1 at Lone Star Park, a race that was contested on Oct. 1 and that he won last year. However, his owner and trainer made the deci- sion to pass that race and run in the Albuquerque Fall Championship because of its higher purse.
“We mostly race on the Texas circuit, but if a horse is good enough we’re going to give him a chance to race for the big money,” Edelmiro Carrizales said. “That’s what we did with this horse in this race.”
Zoomin Effortlessly was bred by Tommy R. Charbula of Edna, Texas. Zoomin
Effortlessly is one of two winners from
two starters foaled by Royal Quick Affair. His third dam, the winning mare Old
Love Of Mine, was a finalist in the ’83 Kindergarten-G1 and Dash For Cash-G1 futurities at Los Alamitos. Zoomin Effortlessly traces back to his sixth dam, 1953 World Champion Miss Meyers.
A $5,000 claimer during his 2 and 3-year- old seasons, the gelding has won 15 of 23 starts, and he was coming off of a 1-length score in the 440-yard $200,000 All American Gold Cup-G1 at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 4.
Zoomin Effortlessly’s eight stakes victories include the 400-yard $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park-G1 on Jan. 3, and the 400-yard $100,000 Leo Stakes-G1 at Remington Park on April 2. His trainer said that the gelding, who has won five of his six starts and has banked $331,914 at the classic 1/4 mile distance, will
be pointed to the 440-yard $150,000 Zia Park Championship-G1, part of Zia Park’s “Land of Enchantment Day” program on Nov. 23.
“I think this horse might even be a little bet- ter at the 550-yard distance, but he’s done well at 440, so I think we’ll keep him at this distance and keep him in New Mexico,” Carrizales
added. “We’ll see how he comes out of this race.”
Zoomin Effortlessly also
has a track record on his resume, as he broke Retama Park’s 400-yard track record when he won last year’s TQHA Sires’ Cup Stakes in :19.493, a mark which still stands.
Fly Thru The Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Babe On The Fly), finished second under Jose Alvarez for owner King Camden Running Horses Inc. and trainer Judd Kearl.
TF Cajun Cartel (Corona Cartel-Dashadee) ran third for owner Cajun Partnership. Ruben Calderon rode TF Cajun Cartel for trainer Fernando Carrete.
Alis Jumpn (Jumpn-Gloria In Red) ran fourth and was followed by 2014 All American Futurity-G1 winner JM Miracle (Volcom- Lethal Delight), GRC Justplainazoom (Azoom-Luisas Plain Jain), Osbaldo (Jesse James Jr-Shes So Blazin), Clear Winn (Jess Zoomin-Winga), Glock (Foose-Babe On The Fly), and Bringin The Gray (Mr Jess Perry- None As Easy).
