                                 sales
On Oct. 24, the event under review was carried out in the premises of the Regional Livestock Union of
Sonora (UGRS), under the sponsorship and organization of the Northwest Delegation of the National Association of Quarter Horse Breeders, A.C. (ANCCCM).
In a single afternoon session, 94 of the
120 yearlings registered in the sale book were presented at the auction ring. All of them were carriers of the best bloodlines in the Quarter Horse racing industry, hailing from the states of Chihuahua, Sonora, Sinaloa and Baja Cali- fornia. At the microphone was auctioneer Rudy Martinez, supported by Douglas McLaurin.
These colts and fillies are now eligible to par- ticipate in the IV Subasta Sonora Futurity, to be held in the fall of 2016 and for which the owners will pay a total of 30,000 pesos (approximately US $1,815) according to the established time- table of payments; and those foals of stallions in service in the State of Sonora are entitled to par- ticipate in the Third Subasta Sementales of 2016 by paying on time the 25,000 pesos (US $1,513 approximately). To expand other alternatives of organized competition, these yearlings are also eligible to the Nacameri 2016 Futurity held an- nually at the Hipodromo of Rayon, Sonora.
Additionally, they can participate in the Traditional Open Futurity conducted annually by the Hipodromo of Hermosillo, which this year was won by the filly Mi Comadre (or La Blanca Nieves), who came from this auction in its 2014 edition. Said individual is of Joaquin Vega Acuna’s breeding and is the property of Cuadra La Cruz of Agua Prieta, Sonora.
The total value of the 94 individuals sold at this sale was 8,234,000 pesos (US $498,173), averaging 87,595 pesos (US $5,300) per head. Compared with the 2014 figures, there was
an increase in 5 yearlings offered for sale and a decrease of 5.53% in the peso value of the auction. Meanwhile, the average price fell 10.55% in pesos.
The highest bid for this auction was 405,000 pesos ($24,503 US) for the grey filly Jessa Lady Cee (Mr Jess Perry - Lady Jane Cee, by Chicks Beduino) consigned by Cesar Dabdoub Chavez. The dam of this filly produced Cheetah Woods and Lord Valiant, placed in classics and winner of $56,109 and $28,634 US dollars, respectively. She also produced, among others, the filly Jaynedela- grace who was a finalist in Sunland Park’s Winter Derby with earnings of $95,936. The second dam of Jessa Lady Cee is Sixy Lady, winner of classics and the dam of multiple Champion Ketel Won.
With Hip #22, the red bay filly One Street Cartel was presented and closed with a bid of 355,000 pesos (US $21,478). She is a member of the first wave of runners by One Dashing Eagle and is out of the mare Street Cartel
(by Corona Cartel). She was consigned by Armando León, a Sinaloa breeder.
Hip #8 corresponded to the chestnut filly Salwa 21 (Zulu Dragon - Cee Cee Otoole, by Corona Cartel), for which the auctioneer Rudy Martinez’s hammer dropped at a bid that reached 330,000 pesos (US $19,965). Besides being a paternal granddaughter of First Down Dash, this filly is a half-sister
to Sudden Thoughts, who has a 112 speed index, was second in the All American Futu- rity, and was a finalist in the Rainbow Derby with earnings of $437,115.
The fourth best bid was 300,000 pesos ($18,150 US) for Hip #106 Long Leash (Tr Dasher - Strict, by Separatist), a beautiful dappled grey colt consigned by Silver Racing Farms LLC. The colt is a full brother of the classic placed Study Hall Pierce, winner of $32,815 in earnings.
In turn, the grey filly Lady Shush, a daughter of the stallion Dejon and out
of Shush (by Separatist), reached a bid of 255,000 pesos (US $15,428), the fifth-best in the final tally. This filly drew the attention
of the public due to being a full sister of Jess Shush (or El Turco), current Champion of the Subasta Sonora Futurity and Derby. Surely we will see her in 2016 trying to match the exploits of her older brother.
The summary of results and data of the 10 highest consignees are included here.
One day before the auction, a change of management of the board was held in the Northwest delegation of the ANCCCM, with Carlos Soto as the new representative of that delegation, replacing Luis Sierra Abascal, who during his tenure intense organizational work and regional development for the racing Quarter Horse has been done.
